hello everyone
im thinking about trying to make me a ghilli suit, but not sure how. can someone show or tell me what i will need, how to do it, and just the steps involved.
thanks and GOD BLESS

I made mine through trial and error. I started with a digital desert camo net, made it into a poncho, made gators for my legs, and made a hood that I tied to the back of the neck. I took many photos of the suit, and began to modify it from there. I eventually tied different colors of jute fiber into the corners of the netting to give it a softer appearance.

Here is a pic of some of the earlier suits.

I made something simular to a ghilli suit. I took all my old wore out camo and cut it in strips 6-8 inches long and 1-2 inches wide then I took a shirt pants,hat and a jacket all things that I didn't care for but still fit me. Then I took a hot glue gun and glued the strips on random colors some facing out and some backwards. I glued them on upside down, so the strip looped over the glued spot and made it more bulky and more 3-d. I have been VERY HAPPY with my suit and it was made out of things that I was either going to throw away or wouldn't wear anyway. It really didn't take too long and I had nothing but my time to loose. I did all of them at about the same time so the strips were about the same mix on all of the peices. I'm not sure how to post pics here but I could post them if you can talk me through it. Feel free to PM me if you want I can email you pics or more info.

I'd be interested in one as well but will need something extremely light weight and breathable. Not so much for the next few months but once summer rolls arounf again it hard enought to stay comfortablein a long sleeve shirt let alone ghillie. Any ideas on how to lighten one up?

Years ago, I wanted to make my own ghillie but then had to work so many hours that I gave up that idea.

At the time, I was very interested in Bushrag's kit where they send the components and you put it together. I really wanted to do this and still might give it a try.

Anyway, they still offer the kit at this link;

The price is in the $65 to $70 range.

I have never actually seen one but they have been around for a long time so they must not be too bad. Anyone here tried one?

Yeah, use the Camo Systems die-cut ground blind material. It's got enough holes through it that it will breathe and it doesn't weigh much of anything.
It still seems to warm up pretty well, unless you can manage to sit in the shade.

I actually made a ghillie suit about 15 years ago for turkey hunting and was wearing the pants and got stopped by people at a rest area asking were they could purchase one .What really amazed me was one a Vietnam vet saying he's never seen something like it and I should market them.This was also when ghillie suits weren't on the market.I bought what's called rafia from a craft store and sewed it in.Very cheap to buy .I think it's like $4.00 a bundle.Two bundles will most likely do.I've since did netting to keep in my pack.This stuff is very light and breathable .You take it and make a u shape out of one piece .You take the u side and slip it through the netting just enough to slip the other ends through the u and pull it tight.I don't know how to post pics .I would really like to show the end results because it looks great for so lttle money.It's just a little time consuming but that's why you have kids for.:)
