how to scout for coyotes?

I have found my weakness, I dont scout enough, or I dont do it the right way. I figure that I just go to a place that looks good for me, but probably not for a coyote. I was wondering what I should be looking for. Right now there is plenty of snow to track them ,but I cant tell the difference between a coyote track and a house dog track, any differences, if so what. What does there scat look like? Where do they usually drop it? Do they do it on trails or scent posts or just randomly? Should I be looking for dens and bedding sights? Any help would be apreciated.

Where i live it's mostly hills so i don't get to see many track's,so what i usually look for is droppings.Coyotes are like deer, they love to travel old logging roads, that's where i find most of my sign.Coyote droppings usually have hair mixed in with it.Good luck!

UTfoxhunter, where are the rabbits and small game in your area. I don't know if specifically scouting for coyotes is really a neccessity. If there is something for them to eat they are almost certainly there. Find a good concentration of jackrabbits and then look for areas close by that a coyote would feel comfortable. Coyotes learn very quickly, at least in my area, that anybody that sees them in the open is going to shoot at them. Thick sage brush around a agricultural area (hay, alfalfa fields) would be a good place to start.
