Actually it tastes even better... there's no flavor cooked out in the pot of water, no smoke added or scorched spots seen as you'll commonly encounter cooking it on the grill. Cooks pretty much perfect everytime!! Even if you shuck the ear after nuking, the silk just falls off, as long as it's still good and warm.
I had a few bushels of sweetcorn given to me awhile back, and layed this trick on my mother. She wasn't going to take any home as she was leaving town the next morning and didn't want to be bothered shucking, and picking silk, and boiling it, and all. Told her to nuke it; just her and dad there eating, it would be much simpler!! Neither her nor my father could believe how simple it was, or how good the corn tastes when cooked in this fashion.
Mom said dad was eating ears about as fast as she could cook them! And, she told him he better not let the rest of the corn go to waste now that he knew how simple it was to cook in this fashion. I'm pretty sure he didn't either!!
It's amazing how much we can learn from watching "grandpa" I worked daily with my Gramps for years as a youngster and never gave thought to how smart he was. Looking back he was the brightest and most productive person I've ever known. Too bad I was too young and stupid to realize it.
