How to tell what year a scope was manufactured

Ok i just bought a new Browning A-bolt composite stalker in .223 wssm. I picked up a Luepold(sp?) 3.5-10 vxIII scope. The only thing is I bought it used (I got a damn good deal IMO) and i dont have the box, but he did give me the leupy warranty.


... Anyway the reason i ask is because im looking at picking up a sunshade for it. Cabelas list 2 different versions of sunshades for Leupy scopes. Pre '05 and post '05. I dont know which it is or if it makes a difference.

Yes it does make a difference. cuz they changed the thread size.

CAll Leupold's number and give them the serial number and they will tell you when it was made, and which shade it takes.

When was my Scope Manufactured?
What year was my scope manufactured? Since 1974 Leupold has incorporated a letter date code in the serial number of each scope. The prefix, beginning with the letter E, was advanced each year. In 1993 the letter changed to a suffix, and was moved to the end of the serial number. Any scope without a letter in the serial number was produced before 1974. The following is a list of the date codes for each year of production. I guess I should have read the whole question...

If it is a vari x then it will be pre 05

If it is a VX then it is post 05

actually I thought the year was 2003 ...
 
Luepold I think has one of the best warranties. They will repair or relace your scope forever. You don't even have to be the original purchaser. If it's in your possesion, no matter how you got it, they will fix it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
