how to trap a skunk

They love sardines, I know that. Try putting some in the back of the cage and let us know how you do. You might have to trap a house cat or two first, but after they learn their lesson (a swift kick in the butt upon their exit from the cage usually does it) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif and they won't be so eager to enter it the next time.

Hope this helps,

Two ways,1.use a live trap with a opening of 6"x6"and bait with sardines. When it gets caught take the whole thing and drown it.There wont be no smell because he wont be able to raise his tail in the small trap.2.Dig a post hole about 4 feet deep and dump sardines in the bottom of the hole, when the skunk falls in the hole he cant get out.Just shoot it and cover it back up with dirt.

If you want to catch just the skunks and not mess with the cats use vanilla wafers. I have caught about 25 skunks this spring all on wafers and several of thepalces were infested with cats. rarely do they bother the wafers.

Have to agree with Machias. I do skunk removal on the side and if you want to avoid catching cats, use something other than fish related baits. Sardines, tuna, etc. will catch a lot of cats. Vanilla wafers, marshmallows, peanut butter are better options for keeping your target animal narrowed to skunks. However if you have a lot of squirrels in the immediate area I'm told they might go for the peanut butter too. I've never had that problem though.

Good luck!
