What do you all who have one of these think about them. Right now at PT&G you can get a barreled action for $299. Thats everything but the stock. I have never even seen one up close to know if they are any good. But at that price i might just try one. They have several calibers with up grades on that and even some camo ones. Heavy barrel to skinny barrel. I did see that if you have them do a caliber up grade and all of the options they then run over $900. But this looks like a good deal if you dont do the caliber upgrade.
 
Howa makes a great barrel action. Accurate for sure. A bit heavier than some others, but not bad. Aftermarket support is slim, but adequate. They're a good buy.
 
I've had a 223 and a 204, both shot very well. A store in Tulsa was selling just the actions for $225, so $299 for a barreled action sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
 
Thanks guys for the responses!! And yes at that price i dont really see how you could go wrong. Even if they are just a mid level hunting rifle. I am going to see what all stock options there are out there.
 
My 6.5-06 Ackley Imp. is built off of what used to be a Howa 270 win that I picked up cheap. It's the least expensive build I've ever had done and it easily shoots as well or better than any other gun in my safe.

The older Howa's had really bad triggers in them but that's an easy fix with a Timney.

Also, the barrel is a metric thread. Being a metric thread you may find that some gunsmiths won't do a rebarrel job for you but it's only because their lathe doesn't cut metric threads. Not a big deal because there are plenty that do.

There is truth to this, although I'm sure others will jump in to protect the beloved 700. I do personally like the Howa (aka Weatherby Vanguard) action a lot. It has a flat bottom with integral recoil lug that makes bedding easy, plus the 1-piece bolt. The are a little heavy, but not terrible, but also a strong, stiff action. I've bought a couple Howa barreled actions in the past in .223 Rem, .243 Win, and 25-06. All shot really well. Went with a Boyds stock on one and B&C stocks on the other two. They were originally bought to use in builds, but shot well enough I never got to it.
 
I have 3 Howa's 223,22-250 and 204 Mini. When I want a new caliber I will buy Howa again. The action is smooth and tight. The Mini and Ranchland aren't heavy because they are a short barrel. The trigger in both of these model break at 2 1/2 to 3 lbs. I put a Timney in my first Howa the 223. They all shoot small groups at 100 yards. I have shot many 3 shot group that touch off a bench rest.


Just curious Barreled action? Are they selling any 6 mm Creed-More? Rudy

Just curious Barreled action? Are they selling any 6 mm Creed-More? Rudy I dont remember but i dont think so. And even if they did the caliber upgrade was a bit high dollar. If i was you and wanted a different caliber i would but the action and have a custom after market barrel put on it. It would be around the same price with a better barrel.
