Here in east-Pa.- rarely need more that 200 yard shots, but also wanted to keep sharp on the ground hogs during summer months.I have to sell some of my blacksmithing stuff to pay for it Sooo- looking for a dual duty(don't have a money tree LOL!)

I would look into the Vortex Viper 3.5-10x50 they retail around $400 but you may be able to find a deal on one. I don't own one but have looked thru them and they are pretty awesome with a great warranty. You also could look into a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 they go for about the same and you know for sure you've got a quality piece of glass. Depends on what you want to spend but I don't think you need to spend any more than $400 to make that Howa sing.

I don't know your price range. The Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5x16 has a FOV of 41' at 2.5x for those close in shots and fast pickup in the timber. the 16x will reach out there and find those chucks at the farside of the alfalfa field. Going to a less pricy 4x16 will cut your FOV nearly in half on 4x.

If your price range is lower Mueller has some 3x10's that have 40' FOVs at the low end pretty nice glass and greats warrenty/customer service.

Half way between these two is the Elite 4200 2.5x10 great glass again 40' FOV on the bottom end.

I would jump up to .243 that way you could use it for deer also. Try the centerpoint scope at Walmart cheap, and good plenty good out to more then 300 yds. It seems to me the scopes being recommended are excellent, but a little pricey for 200 yd shooting.

I just received my Howa Axiom 22-250 last week. I bought the scope package with it. 3-10X42 Nikko Sterling. Loaded up some rounds and punched paper. 3 shot groups and my best group was .10 @100yds. I can't complain with that. Money well spent. Take care.

I just had a 22-250 built for me on a Rem 700. I wanted it for long range shooting, looking around for a scope at www.natchezss.com I found that Millett was offering glass. They were known to me for the iron sights, till now. I ordered the 6-25x56/30mm tube/ Long Range Side focus. I was really impressed with the scope and with a 56mm object lens should be great in low lite conditions. I was so impressed that I ordered the 4-16x56/30mm tube for another project.

dang!! thats less than 1/8 " good shooting indeed!!

The 1500 is a decent action. I have a Vanguard 22-250 that is at least 25 yrs old. We used to drive roofing nails out of the back of a cardboard box with it.

I'd go with Brad's scope recommendaion, or maybe take a look at a new Redfield 4-12x40.......

I have a Howa 1500 22-250 Rem. in a SS/synthetic varmint
model. It has shot some groups in the .2 MOA range, but
given low winds, it typically is around .5 MOA. Good rifle.
As for optics, I have 6-18x Nikon Buckmaster SF. Probably
a bit much for a predator rifle. I use mine for bench shooting,
either paper or colony varmints. But the Nikon Buckmaster in
3-9x should be a bit over $200, and a good value at that price.

Nope. But a couple of reputable sources have told me they are a solid value. I'll prolly order one up to try out.......
