Well, My Howa 270 (Weatherby Vanguard actually) has had a horrible habit of stringing shots. I bought some Nosler 140 gr. Accubonds to work up loads and proceded to shoot several 3"+ groups strung vertically. I had enough! I got out the 2-ton epoxy and bedded the recoil lug and about 3/4" directly behind it. Let 'er sit over the weekend and here is the result!!

It's nice when a little effort brings great results. Good for you.

Yeah, it was a simple fix. I know some people would laugh at .8's but for me that is plenty good for a skinny barreled hunting rifle especially when you consider how horrible it was before. Best group I EVER got out of this gun before today was 2 1/4 inches.

Gil Why,

Is this Howa 270 your new Elk rifle??

Well, it would be but I've killed my elk with a bow the last 7 years so I haven't had to use it. It did kill this muley last year my youngest son is holding...

I had a Howa 270 that loved 140 gr Hornady boattails. Half inch or less goups consistantly.

Rem case (reload, fl sized after shot in the rifle)
Rem 9 1/2 primer
(CAUTION) 52.0 gr Imr 4350 ( slightly less than max load in manual)(worked to that charge as should everyone that tries it)
(CAUTION) bullet seated in the middle of the cannelure (for me, may not be safe in other rifles)

Good job! Now try some RL22 or H4831SC and watch that group shrink even smaller.

I'll have to give it a try...I have about 5 lbs. of RL19 lying around so that's what I've been using....
