Iv never owned a Howa but am looking to buy one. Its a very good looking gun. brown laminate thumb hole stock, blued 22" barrel in .243 for $540. Anybody who owns or once owned can you give me scoop on these guns

I own several. I really love them and think they shoot as good as any gun out there. Triggers are not the best. Have a trigger job put on them and you will love them.

I also plan on getting a Howa thumbhole varminter 22-250 in a stainlessteal. I priced them today 619.95 I will be ordering mine friday.

I think lawson had a post on the Howa M1500 a few day ago. You might check it out too. Your looking at the sporter weight model. I have the Heavy Varminter in 308 winchester.

I have own in .308. the actions are awesome. Mine has been very accurate. A lot of folks do not packing around the weight but I am not too bothered by it other than that I bave absolutely no complaints about it. And I really like the way they look also.

Holy Crap!!!!! Whats the heavy varminter look like? A tank?
Seriously, I bought 1 about 20 years ago for $200. Nice rifle. Used it a couple years & sold it for same price. Only complaint is that it wasn't left-hand. It was a .270 & my son has 1 in 30/06. He likes his too.
Mine was marketed by Smith & Wesson. Same rifle as Weatherby Vangaurd.

The Howa's are a very good action with a pretty good trigger that is easily adjusted as long as you don't like 1 1/2 lb triggers.

They have several features that I really like. The extractor is one of the very best of factory rifles on the market and there are also holes in the bolt to vent gas in the event of a blown primer to keep gases away from the shooter's eye.

The Howa's that I had were a 223 sporter and a 22/250 Varmint, both of which presented examples of good craftsmanship, good design, and 3/4" accuracy, perhaps a little long throated for my likes.

I shot them for a while, got bored and sold them. One of my best friends bought the 223 and turned it into a 17 Mach 4 using a Pac Nor barrel and that little bugger would shoot with the 25g Berger bullets touching at 100 yards with loads that varied from 15.5g of H335 at 3550 fps to 18.5g of H335 at 3850. We shot a mountain of crows, ground squirrels, and jack rabbits with that rifle up in N. Nevada.

Another nice thing about the Howa was that it would hold 7 rounds of 17 Mach 4.

Hard to add much here, it's all been said. Excellent values for the money. Accurate. I prefer an aftermarket trigger. Also a sound basis for a custom rifle. Smiths like 'em, and Howa based customs are getting more popular every day......

I just bought the same rifle but with stainless barrel around 1 year ago in the 243 for around $460 from a local gun shop and I love it. Of course like the rest of the guys said I had to have a trigger job on it. You might look into purchasing a barreled action from Howa. My uncle just purchased a 22-250 and a 204 and bought the stocks off ebay. He has around $430 in each set up depending on what kind of stock you want. Those barrels are bull barrels as well. If your interested in going that route PM me and i will get you the information on where he purchased the actions. Hope this helps.

I bought a couple of the Weatherby Vanguards. They are practically the same. Cabela's had them on sale for $399 a few months back. I had them both puched out to 223 AI and they feed slicker than snot. They feed much slicker/better than my Rem 700.

Take a look on Gunbroker.

I'm another Weatherby Vanguard owner (.257Roy) and this being a "howa 1500".....I love 'em. Very strong and smooth action. I'd have no problem purchasing a 1500.
