Looking to do some long range shooting and hunting. Which woud you pick for accuracy and reliability? I also will be doing some upgrades on down the road. Tell me which one and why. Thanks

Between the two, I'd take the Howa. I have an older one in .22-250 and it shoots a hair over .5 MOA out of the box. I understand the newer ones have better triggers. If you're looking at .308's, for the same price I'd also look at the Savage Model 10 Precision Carbine. Kiz Jr. has a matching pair in .223 and .308. Haven't shot the .308 much, but the .223 is a .5 or less MOA gun out of the box with factory loads. The PC has the Accutrigger and the Accustock.

I have found my Howa's to more accurate out of the box than my Remington 700s. The trigger is easily adjusted and the action is smooth as butter. Additionally, you use Remington 700 bases for the Howa so there are a lot of options out there.

My only gripe with the Howa, is the lack of aftermarket stocks compared to the Remington 700.

Other than that, I am Howa all the way.

I recently bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 308 and it's a good shooter right out of the box. I'm very pleased with the rifle. I also recently bought a Weatherby Vanguard Predator in 223, which has the Howa action and trigger. It is a very good shooter as well, but the trigger is not as good as the Remington's, although it's really not bad either. I have had some Howa rifles in the past, a couple of 6.5X55's and a 243, and while I wasn't particularly impressed with them, they were worth the money. If I were recommending one, I would always say Remington.

I'll agree with everything he said. I love my howa 308.
