So, a while back I was looking for a scabbard that I could affix to my backpack that would carry my AR equipped with a scope. All I could find were some shotgun scabbards or full on systems like the Eberlestock ones(way too much coin for me).
I stumbled across the HSGI (High Speed Gear Inc.) scabbard and liked what I saw. I originally ordered one from a local company here in AZ, but I needed it fairly soon as I wanted to use it during the upcoming Javelina hunt....about a week and a half away. I called the company and they informed me that they didn't have any in stock and would not be able to get me one by the time I needed it.....BUMMER.
I called HSGI and told them my ordeal. I cant remember the guys name that I spoke to, but he was very friendly. He checked to see if they had one in the color I wanted and proceeded to reserve it for me and told the lady in charge of processing the orders to expect one from me(he took my name)and gave her the scabbard. I placed the order from my I-phone and 3 hours later I had a UPS tracking number. That was a Thursday and the Monday after it was at my door step with 4 days till the hunt.
Upon inspection I see that it is excellent quality and the color matched my backpack pretty good. My rifle fit perfectly with the barrel falling about 4" short of the end, witch I liked. I didn't want the barrel to poke out and stick in the dirt if I set my pack on the ground.
I attached it to my pack and it was very comfortable. I expected the load to be offset since I mounted it to one side, but as I carried it during the hunt it felt balanced and even.
I can reach back and remove my rifle while wearing my pack, but reinstalling it requires removal of the pack.
I really like this scabbard and has made trekking into some treturous area easier since it leaves both hands free for whatever you need. Their site says you can custom order one to whatever length you need so you 18"-24" guys can get one if desired.
