Have you ever ran into or seen one of those huge crow roost? Where they just keep flying in a black tunnel out of the roost or back into the roost?

Let me know what you have seen.

Thanks

The city of Rochester, NY has a roost of somewhere between 20-30,000 birds in the winter. I see them every morning and every evening this time of year as they blacken not only the sky but every tree withing the city. There are several other near by cities that have a similar problem. Some have come up with a novel way to control the population.

Even though this is from 2004, there are several similar hunts still going on every year. I have no idea how many are killed in these mega hunts but I have participated a couple times and seen trucks with their beds literally over flowing with birds.

Yes. I hunt them on their way into the roost. 10,000 plus birds I think.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that, but here they often come in on 2 flyways from feeding/staging areas and once they are in the roost smaller groups(500) will spontaneously move around before they all settle down for the night. Occaisonally I see a few individuals leaving the roost right before dark. I'm not sure why that happens. Maybe the resident birds don't stay in the roost with the migratory ones.

Not to be too cruel, but can't you just bomb/burn/obliterate the roost in the staging area? Not for nothing, I don't want to see 1000 crows converge on my town, a few dozens we have are doing a fine jobs of pissing residents off bad enough...a thousand you say? I would be livid...
