Hunting fit?

No doubt many USA predator callers are real fit, you guys walk far during predator calling stands etc, but our predators are hunted at night as our predators dont show in daylight, and if they do you are a lucky man. So we hunt at night from a truck with elevation, a good idea in some places on African plains.

But we do walk far like callers in USA for baboon, buck or even flighted birds. My question is those walking real far, like a guide, how do you get fit or keep fit?

I have a routene and stick to it, I have a family thing called cholestrole, I am not overweight at all but have the big "C". So do a daily work out. How about other hunters? What do you do to keep fit? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I go to the gym four or five times a week.....been doing it for years. If I never get out of shape I never have to worry about getting into shape.

I have a pattern I follow, and every day do a 45 minute work out, it also helps a guy who blows a hand call a lot, sort of makes you lung fit. Sometimes I give it a break on a Sunday, but generally am quite strict with myself.

Raquetball because I hate working out unless there is a winner. Outside of that as much hiking as possible and chores around the house seem to do it for me. Unfortunatly my work is not very beneficial to staying in "hunting shape".

Bike riding/walking as much as possible.
But I'm not "in shape". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I have severe asthma, & between my meds/too much junk food I am overweight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
However, I started a "lifestyle change" in Oct., 2005 & have lost 60#. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Now, if I can get those other 50# off by Nov., 2006, then I might be able to say that I'm "in shape". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I consider a coyote hunting day where I walk 5-7 miles as a "rest day" from my usual routine.

I am 44 years old. I stretch and run 5 miles a day, lift weights 3 times a week, I do 500 situps each day. I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu twice a week.

For me, training is a way of life. I look at all my peers that are so fat and out of shape. I don't ever want to be like that.

Isn't round a shape? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Sorry Furdown. I guess my statement was kind of offensive. I mainly workout the way I do for two reasons:

1. I enjoy it alot.

2. I have watched so many people die prematurely because they did not do anything to take care of themselves. No one can live forever. However, the older I get, the more I realize that the only "real" thing you have is your health. Bank accounts, cars, careers ect.. mean nothing if you can't enjoy them.

I wasnt offended in the least. If you cant poke fun at yourself, then who can you poke fun at. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I'm in great shape for a man of 67. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Now if I can stay like this until I reach 67. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I stay fit by playing paintball durring the off season and fishing & camping I lift weights also,I mainly do 12 oz.curls /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I used to work out a lot harder than I do now. I love good food, cook often, and used to eat out all the time. I now work out less and take it a little easier on my body, while not eating out, and focusing on eating better. Restarant food is really high in fat. That's why it tastes so good.

Lots of mountain and woods walking. My exersizing is right in the woods and mountains where i hunt.I not only stay in shape,i know where all the critters are at.

Kinda what I was thinking. I am in shape too. I am shaped like a barrel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

What was it.... "You know a guy is on the level if his bubble's in the middle."

At least when we poke fun at ourselves it won't hurt our finger!

I work physically running my business, but it does nothing for my cardio or my legs. Just wears me out. I hunt the mountains almost exclusively where you NEED legs and lungs. I use a kitchen chair for good as well as bad! Keep one foot on the chair at all times, step up, stand, switch feet, step down, step up... Do that for 5 minutes non-stop, and the Forest Service will hire you to brush trails and fight fires! Build up to where you can do it for a half hour straight and you'll be able to shoot an elk next season!

I use up a lot of sweat during my day.I shoe 5 to 6 horses a day ride and exercise 3horse a day plus chores. Still geting my place in shape brush cutting and fence work. 2hounds to keep in shape and wifes honey doos. Will be fifty next year.hunt and hike when wife is gone rodeoing on weekends.

situps, pushups, pullups. i am a maintenance engineer so i get a lot of walking, ladder climbing and stair climbing. blowing your calls a lot will help with wind, so does splitting wood, and a lot of horizontal polka

I keep in shape for coyote season by walking up jackrabbits with either my 10/22, my Encore or my 9mm. Ridin my dirtbike is also a work out at times.
