Hunting for hogs in AZ?

So my brother has had a bit of a troubled past shall we say. Cannot shoot anything with powder. He has been doing really well over the last 3 years and I am trying to get him into hunting. Most of us know what a good experience taking this on can be.

My issue is I know nothing about bow hunting especially something I have never hunted before. He says that he wants to go and try to hunt hogs down in Arizona. Ideally a type he can take the meat and eat what would be his first kill. We are looking something in November or so.

My question is there a place we could go, perhaps a general location? I am not asking for any honey holes. Perhaps a guide that someone may have had a good experience with? Any advice would help.

There are some feral hog along the river in Mesquite NV on the AZ border. Numbers aren't huge and locating is difficult due to the thick cover. Hunting them is best done with dogs. Might try and find some ranch properties on the river that are having problems with them rooting and damaging crops and fences. The Hafen's have a ranch on the AZ border. Might be a good place to start.

if you got money you can go hunt "wild" hogs in cortez junction arizona on the Easy Ranch. Try googling the Easy Ranch or something like that. I did it with some friends, why someone who lives in TX, MS and LA would pay money to kill a flipping rodent is beyond me, but I did it, with my bow too, great easy hunt and would be perfect for a first timer.

The AZ javelina seasons offered in November are all junior only hunts. Eligible people to participate are those who have completed a hunter education course and will be no older than 17. Permits are obtained in a drawing from applications submitted in June. Draw odds are excellent. I think Unit 37A is a good one and hunt around Newman Peak, Suizo Mountain, and Durham Hills.

The statewide archery seasons are in January for everybody else. A person can hunt within the city limits with archery if they have a tag for that area. The urban metro units are over the counter permits. There are a bunch of nuisance javelina in urban areas. Contact the AZ Game abd Fish and ask them where people are having problems with javelina for an easy hunt. Most of the other units open in January for archery javelina are by permits obtained by a drawing.
