Hunting Rack

Recently I decided to build myself a single seat hunting rack. It's made from steel, The shooting platform is made from aluminum. Its been working out really well. With the way its currently built it weighs 185 lbs. I have shot many from it yet but did kill one at 300 and 412 yards.

Looks good. Only improvement I can see would be to round off the corners on your table a bit. Sure would poke a rib or something if you were to lose your balance in the dark.

That looks really good! Did you weld up the floor or is that something you re-purposed. I agree, the corners of the rifle platform look downright dangerous.

The corners have already been rounded off. I was checking distance and rifle location that day. It's now been painted with a rubberized coating to quite it down if my chest pack bumps into it or I need to set my thermal binoculars down when I see one coming in. The rest of the rack was cleaned scuffed and then painted with a spray on black bed liner.

(this part is humor)
Need to add the same type of auger outriggers that the actor uses on his truck in the Movie "Twisters" for winds.

Ok now to be serious I like it, really nice looking set-up. Appears to have a application in varmint hunting as well.

The ONLY problem I can see is that SOME states require your feet to touch the ground with Varmint hunting and maybe Yote hunting as well. Obviously the OP is good to go as I'm sure they checked that.

Yep, can't shoot from a vehicle in PA unless you have a special 'handicap' permit and I am told there are a lot of stipulations with using it after acquiring one.

Same in NY. Illegal to shoot from any motorized vehicle. Special permits allow certain people to shoot from vehicles, but the engine must be off and the vehicle not on a public road/highway. Must be off the road right of way as well if I remember correctly.

That said, that’s a pretty sweet rack. Nicely fabricated.

I can see using a piece of tube with an umbrella would be a nice if a guy could legally use it for praire dog hunting in the summer. Where I use it its legal and I night hunt out of it.

Only restrictions I am aware of in the Republic of Texas ;) is you cannot shoot from a public road or a vessel underway and the latter may be a federal law in re: migratory game. May be some restrictions on what little public land is available of which I am unaware.

Apology for my off topic post......moved my post to PREDATOR HUNTING

Have seen similar rigs posted for PD hunting. Can't imagine why there would be any regulations regarding use of platform for PD hunting and an umbrella would be of great benefit for that type of hunting IMO.
