Hunting Video Games Which One?

I've been trying to find a decent hunting simulation for a PC platform and don't seem to be having all that much luck. I have a copy of Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2005 but it's not very realistic or entertaining. Looks and sounds good but behind the eye candy there's not much gameplay and a lot of what is there is frustrating. I'm looking for something entertaining, but more simulation than arcade action.

I know there are a lot of younger hunters, or older hunters who still play a few games, that post here that might know a title I'd enjoy while I'm unable to hunt for real.

I tried the Dangerous Hunts game on your recomendation. I found it in the Bargain Bin of the PX software section. It was interesting but not up to speed with the 2005 Version of Cabela's Hunting Game I am playing now. The difference in platforms (PC vs. Console) may have an affect on gameplay?

I actually enjoy the game but it needs a patch to fix some of it's major flaws. With the help of actual hunters the development team could really turn it into a great game.

BTW some of the animals in 2005 will attack you like in Dangerous Hunts especially wild boars. However it's a wonder who programmed the AI for the coyotes? I've been mauled by a 30lb coyote that I have been shot at several times with a 12guage!

Some of the animations are cool, but the graphics can bring the stoutest machine to a crawl with all of the options on. I have a AMD64 3500+ on a 939 socket board a Gig of Ram and a ATI X800 graphics card and I still turn off a lot of the options in order to get playable framerates. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

It's a shame it could have been contender.

Don't forget those killer pronghorns of the California forests. Yesterday I was playing Dangerous hunts and was attacked by a wounded pronghorn I had been tracking. I had to be rescued by the warden, because my energy was low from a previous wild boar attack.

The NRA is sponsering a line of "games" which are actually suppose to be more like a simulation. I read about it in a magazine. If you use a search engine and type in NRA Varmint hunting game you can find a lot of information on it. Might not turn out to be anything but could be a fun way to pass some time.
