I Can Afford Either a Thermal Handheld or a Thermal Scope. What Would You Recommend?

I sold my FLIR PS24 Scout now Im in the market for a new thermal. It will be used for security work. Ideally I need to be able to observe and detect objects from 20 yards out to 500 or better yet 1000 yards. Im playing around with the idea of purchasing a scope to use as a handheld so I can also have the option of using it as a sight. The thing is 99% of the time it would be used as a handheld. For work I can't mount it, for hunting my state doesn't allow thermal sights although I would use it for scanning deer and elk; and I do have a PVS-14 with night vision capable red dots, a Litton MK-845, and a Simrad KN-203FAB. I would like to do a Texas hog hunt someday but that will not be anytime soon. The size of the FLIR Scout is about perfect since it fits inside an ACOG pouch on my plate carrier. I am considering the Pulsar HD-50S and XD-50S handhelds, and Pulsar Apex HD-38A scope. What direction would you go?

Those look like great options however I will need to make the purchase no later than April 1st. Both are also far out of my price range. I understand they are not much more expensive than the Pulsar units I mentioned but I have the opportunity to purchase the Pulsars at a significant savings. If I was paying full retail I would probably be looking at a Pulsar HD 19 or HD 38 to stay within my budget.

$2000-$2600 is what I can to afford to spend.

I appreciate the feedback and the help. This morning I purchased a refurbished HD-50S with 1 year factory warranty from Sellmark for a very good price.
