I didn't want to like it, but the Savage Model 10 Predator Max-1 6.5 Creed shoots...

I'll admit, while I think Savage rifles are accurate, I've never been a huge fan. Not as smooth as other actions, and don't care a ton for the magazine, but I gave the Model 10 P 6.5 Creedmoor a workout and she didn't disappoint.

I started out with some 120 A-Max, 140 gr A-Max, and 129 SST factory ammo I had in the cabinet. First three shots after getting the 120's on paper at 100yds were .6". Not bad. Then I ran some of the 129 grn SST's...group was .9". Then a 5-shot group of the 140's went into a .5" cluster. I was out of 140's, so went back to the 120's. 5-shot went into .6". I moved it back to 250yds and shot about an 1" group with the 120's. I thought I was pretty happy with that...until...

My buddy I went to the range with handed me some of his handloads, 130gr VLD Hunt over IMR 4451.

I had to do one more just to see if this was a fluke, and it wasn't. She kept putting them right on top of each other. This was the first time I've shot off a bipod instead of sandbags too.

Needless to say, I'm not changing the stock on this gun, or anything else. I'm also headed out to buy some Berger's and IMR 4451.

There's something special about the Predator Max-1 barrels. They shoot! But I didn't care for the camo dip on the stock so I blasted it off.

Very nice. I have three savages at the moment and they all shoot very well, next time I'm looking savage will be at the top of my list. Might not be the best looking, but who cares when they shoot like that.

I am not brand specific if it won't shoot it won't stay.

This is exactly how I am. I have some brands I like better than others, but if they dont shoot well, they find a new home. My dad thinks I'm crazy because I've sold some expensive custom rifles, but they wouldn't perform.

I still can't say I love Savage, but I really like this rifle. She found her forever home lol.

Good shooting BTW, looks like you got a good one.

They don't ALL shoot like that.

There was a time when I swore I would never own one of those ugly Savage rifles. I was into GAP, Surgeon, and various custom builders. Now I own 4 Savage rifles because they shoot and I can change barrels to match the cartridge of the day. I too own a MAX-1 Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. It wears a Surefire brake/silencer, and the optic is a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X56. It's my long range prairie dog rig. Besides, the pig looks good in lipstick.

They don't ALL shoot like that.

But most of them do.

Don't it suck when the old butt ugly clunky Savages shoot like high end customs?

Thank you. Yes, I am glad I found a good one. What also makes it sweeter is it was on sale when I got it!

I had one in 223 and my stupid *** got rid of it. Never had a 223 that shot any better and I've had lots of them. Unlike most, I liked my stock and barrel and once I learned how to properly put my magazine in, zero malfunctions. Wish I had that one back.

My buddy has one in 243 but he put his in a B&C stock. With 80gr Barnes factory ammo, it shoots little bity 3 shot bug holes @ 100yds. Yes, factory ammo. It's his wife's hunting rifle. He hated the stock. There you go, some do, some don't.

yea I am sure they are going to put builders of high dollar customs out of business with their "old butt ugly clunky Savages". When are those ignorant people paying thousands of dollars for a rifle going to learn? LMAO

I presently have 3 Savages, none of them have factory barrels on them. I had a couple that shot pretty good with factory tubes, but noting consistent like shown above.

I don't build a rifle to be accurate, necessarily. I could get a tikka and tame it down, and in the weight of gun I like the accuracy would probably be just as good.

I do build a rifle exactly the way I want it, particularly the stock and cartridge.

I'd never dream of building a full custom in a standard type cartridge, not counting the 6.5x47- which is hardly standard given that I've never seen an American production rifle chambered in it.

If my beloved 223 ever wears out, I'll replace it with another CZ or a Sako. Should I have the want for a 22-250 or similar, I'll buy a tikka or a sako.

But, for Heaven's sake, you'd never see me with a savage. Woof.

To be fair, this thread is celebrating the accuracy of specifically the Savage model 10 Predator Hunter Max-1, which is different than the typical model 10, 11, or 12 Savage rifle. This particular model gets consistently awesome accuracy reviews, better than the standard Savage rifle. Maybe it's the unique barrel? Maybe it's more than just the luck of the draw with this model? Seems to be.

D-DOG,
You're right about the model 10 Max-1. I'm not a Savage lover at all but I've yet to see one of those Max-1's that wouldn't shoot awesome. There's got to be something about the barrel.
