I understand that you can buy new rifle barrels for these at around 100 bucks or so..how hard is this to do? anyone know much about these? thanks in advance

It is very easy to change the barrel. Take out the fore-end screw, and remove the fore-end. Break the rifle open and just lift the barrel off.

To add new barrels you have to send the receiver to H&R to have the new barrel fitted. The barrels cost between $85 and $125 depending on what you want. They charge $15 per barrel for fitting. The turnaround is usually 3 to 5 weeks.

I was just about to write the same reply. I'm looking into purchasing an H&R 20 ga ultra slug hunter and wanted to get a .243 barrel aswell but what I read on their site I need to buy the rifle first then fit the shotgun to it as the shotgun receiver cannot accept a rifle.

Skippy-
Its not that they wont fit. The SB2 Rifle receiver is stronger. Its entirely possible for someone to put a rifle barrel on a shotgun receiver and stretch that bad boy pretty good.

Back when I thought I knew what was up I beat a pre safety bar reciever to the point where it would unlock upon firing. Darn Lucky I didnt hurt myself on that one.

great guys thanks! thats what i wanted to hear. i have the SB2 in a 45/70 and i wanted to get the 204 ruger fluted bull barrel for this thing. its only 125 i think..that is ALOT cheaper than getting a brand new 204. and for a fluted bull barrel, well thats just what i wanted! does anyone know how the accuracy is on it?

They can be very accurate rifles, but generally require a bit of work to get there.

The factory triggers are BAD. I had a local gunsmith take mine from around 7 lbs. to about 2 lbs.. This is probably the best thing you can do to improve the rifles. Floating the fore-end will also improve the accruacy in most of the rifles. This is a pretty easy job.

I have heard the NEF will do a free trigger job on the rifles when you send them in for barrels.

so like i said i have the 45/70, if i send it in and get the 204 barrel put on it, then in 2 months i want to change back to the 45/70 i can do it myself correct? i dont have to send it back in to them to get it put back on do i?

Once you have the new barrel fitted, you can change back and forth yourself.

It takes about a minute to change the barrels. All you need is a screwdriver.
