I need a lightweight 25-06

Remington 700 CDL, bought my beautiful daughter a pretty rifle. It shoots good too! She picked the caliber. 25-06

Look around, Remington, Winchester, Savage and Tikka to name a few make rifles in this chambering. It's going to come down to what you can find and which feels comfortable in the end.

I use a savage edge 25-06 for deer and smaller. It's light and really accurate. My favorite 'little' big game rifle. I got it off of GB when I was killing time, $209. I haven't come across near as good a deal since.

Not sure how fancy you want to go but the Savage model 11 (or in your case 111) trophy hunter is a really light setup. I don't have experience with it in 25-06 but I have one in 223 and my brother and my sister in law each have one in 243 and all 3 of them will shoot under an inch. Just an idea if you are wanting to go cheaper plus they have a $75 rebate on them until the end of the year.

I would find a Remington 700 with a Sporter barrel and call it a day. Lots of after market accessories available and lots of options if you ever feel the need to build a semi custom rifle.

If your trying to keep the budget down I would say try to find a Savage Axis.

On a side note I've actually called Ruger and told them they should chamber the American line in 25-06, they said they are not currently chambering any line in 25-06 and don't plan to until the market picks back up. I geuss I didn't realize there weren't a lot of people buying this caliber anymore.

Light weight Tikka or Remington Mountain version. That 700 is stainless fluted 22" with a Bell & Carlson charcoal and gray spider web stock. Sharp rifle but its about $300 more than the Tikka stainless.

There are some Ruger American Predators 25-06s on gunbroker, it is some special dealer / distributor run I believe. Barrels are threaded but I don't know the length.

I have a 700 ADL/SPS stainless that I switched over into my CDL stock and I consider it the right weight now. Its a little heavier but it seemed to tame it down if that makes sense. I have thought of switching back for bad weather but can't bring my self to do it. Something about a stainless CDL.

I appreciate all the input.

I currently carry a custom that weighs about 12 lbs and costs more than I should be slinging around the rocks. I want this rifle to asddress both of those issues. Definitely don't want a custom. I think 800 ish would be my top price.

Do any of these recommended come with quality triggers or will I need to upgrade?

I was gonna say "Kimber" too, but even the least expensive one I found on Gunbroker was more than $800. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=451804390 I love my Kimber 8400.

I like Winchesters, but the M70 Featherweight only has a 22" barrel. Same goes for the Tikka. I'd like a little more barrel for a 25-06.

Browning might be worth a look. The X-bolt weighs in at less than 7 pounds and has an MSRP of $900. They're under $800 on Gunbroker.

The Remington 700 CDL looks pretty decent too. It's not a true lightweight at 7.5 pounds, but that's not too bad if you rigged it with a fairly light scope. They seem to be running right around your budget.
