i live in iowa, but im close to Missouri and Ill. i have a question:

are there ANY rifle ranges that are set up to shoot OVER 100 yards in thease states at all? id like 600 yards or so, but anything would be better than what i can find.

im talking about "open to the public" type or "pay to shoot"

NOT gun clubs that you have to join to get a key yada yada yada

i am getting a new custom rifle and would like to streach its legs but dont know where to do it!

any help is great!! thanks

Have you checked the NRA website?? They have a directory that gives Public/Private info, as well as the what facilities are available....

I belong to the St Louis Benchrest club (Private) and that is the only one I know about that has 200+ yard shooting...

There is a range in Sparta, IL that I "think" the public can access, but I'm not sure of the actual name of the facility..

You might also check the Missouri Department of Conservation website,,, They list several shooting ranges and details..

There is a range off of I-80, near LaSalle-Peru (Buffalo Shooting Range) that is accessible to the public for $25 for the day, but I don't remember if they went past 100 yards, or not...They are generally closed mid-week...

If you Google "Public Shooting Ranges" by state, you may find quite a few, but at least you can winnow them out for your needs..

You dont know anyone with some land so that you could set up your own temporary range? I got permission to a piece of ground that will allow me to shoot out to a 1000 yards.

I did what rube did. We have a nice range right outside of town. It has 25yd, 50yd, and 100yd ranges all with benches. Usually the 25yd and a couple of 100yd benches are full on the weekends. And you have to wait to go check targets because most of the guys are blazing away with their sks and pistols trying to hit a target set at 100yds. I went out on some hunting ground that I have access to and set up a bench with steel gongs at 200, 300, 400, and 500yds. I still have room to go out to 1000yds but have not made anything for that. Also have gongs for rimfire at 50 and 75yds. The farmers son-in-laws both have used it from time to time and think that it is great.

I shot at one in Yarrow, MO but can't remember the ranges available. It was in a conservation area and was open to the public though.

Th Effingham Gun Club has many berms with the farthest being a range of approx. 400 yards and an additional 100 yard auxiliary.

Milan IL,

Milan Gun Club. just across the river from Davenport IA,

I believe they are shooting out to 1000 yrds there....hand gun facility too.

When I lived in MO we shot on a farm road out to 600 yards (it was a dead end). The place was a friend of my shooting buddy.
