Thanks for the info.
It's funny that it doesn't show any wolves near the idaho nevada border. I just came from a archery hunt down near rogerson and my hunting buddy had two wolves within a 200 yards of him yesterday morning.

So if you get one with a radio collar do you get to keep the collar like a ban off a duck?

They are there, but they are just transients. Only if a pack or group establishes itself do they mark it. In other words, there are lots and lots of single wolves or small groups running around with no established territory that are not being counted.

Most of them are younger wolves that are either looking for a prey base or mates to establish a territory.

I got the two F&G guys at the E. Idaho Fair to admit that there are plenty of wolves south of the Interstate. I never saw any wolves, but there were some MIGHTY big dog tracks in my archery area too. Southern Idaho has some wolves, to be sure, and our season opens Oct 1. Limit of 5 though.

Or, they are well established, but the biologists haven't been able to confirm it yet, so it isn't documented. That is the problem with the estimates, the biologists really have no real clue how many animals they are dealing with, or where they are.
