If you could buy a nightforce or have

I'm really thinking hard on taking the nightforce plunge and need to see some thoughts from my fellow coyote killers.
What one would it be?
What reticle?
Illuminated or non illuminated?
Pros or cons
Thanks guys

Then id get the simplest reticle available, maybe moar. I'd rather have illumination and not need it than need it and not have it. My next scope will be illuminated. 6x is awful high on the bottom end for coyote hunting personally.

I wish they had a 3-22x56. I plan on using it for deer and elk hunting and on coyotes they make the moar with the cross hairs illuminated and I'll look at that and the illuminated moar also. How long do the illuminated batteries last? Do I have to turn it on every time?

Yes you have to turn it on every time. You pull out the parallax knob. Why do you need 22x? 15 should be plenty for what you listed to further than you should shoot.

I forgot to mention I plan on getting into long range shooting. 6.5x47 lapua is what I plan on shooting. I use to care about not tearing up coyote hides because I sell them but, now I am purely in it for the joy of calling. I usually have someone calling with me that has the gun/scope for coyotes under a 100 yards and unless I have my shotgun I stop them around a 100 yards.

I've shot a Weaver Tactical 3-15 without any problems out to 1,200 and never felt like I needed more power on the scope. I also recently had the opportunity of shooting 1mile with a 338 LM. It had S&B glass on top at it was only turn up to 16x and still had no problem seeing and hitting a 30" square target.
I have learned that scope magnification is a personal thing. I like the 3-15/4-16 while my huntin buddy loves the low end to be 5x.
Bottom line you can't go wrong with the NXS

I have a 3.5-15 nxs with MOAR reticle. I love the scope. once you have used one and see how exact the turrets works you will never go back to suckpold. I think the 5-20 is too much scope, you simply don't need that much scope power. I have killed a coyote with mine at 991, shot a 2 3/4" group at 800 yards.

I Would also suggest looking at the nightforce SHV series. the 5.5-20 model has a zero set feature. my favorite reticle is the MOAR IMO you don't need illumination with it either.

I have 2 Nightforce scopes on rifles that I hunt with and target shoot. Both are 5.5-22x. Both are illuminated which is a must if hunting in low light conditions. Both can easily see a deck of cards at 1000 yards. One has the uncluttered retice np2dd the other has mlr reticle. The moar reticle would be a great choice also cause you can use the moa lines if you don't want to dial. I have no problem hunting with the 5.5x. I also like to see my target way out there on 22x. One of the rifles is ga precision that I shoot at 1500 yards and I can see just fine.

I'll lead with "Nightforce makes some killer optics."

I'll go on to say that you would be wise to try one out before spending the money. I ordered one last summer, got it in and almost immediately returned it. Had it about 3 hours. The replacement looked just as unclear to me, so I sent it back and got a VX6.

I think everyone's eyes are different, and some scopes will look better than others to them. I have a good friend with a couple of Sawrovskis, and he says he gets a fuzzy ring around the edges, but still likes them. I don't see it when I look through his scopes, further reinforcing the point here.

They're great scopes, but just make sure they're a good fit for your eyes.

take a look at IOR scopes. I have been using them on tactical and hunting rifles for several years with very good results. The tactical rifles get beat up pretty bad. Better glass perfect tracking and cheaper. I also have the nightforce 2.5x10x42 and it is a [beeep] fine scope. 3x15 0r 3x18 is plenty of scope for 1000+. Good scopes are not cheap, buy good glass and repeatability in your turrets.

I prefer US Optics on my yote guns (They're tough) I also like the Vortex and I.O.R. Valdadas. I use m.o.a. reticles on all of them, I just hold off however many minutes I need to. I believe Nightforce makes an m.o.a. reticle also. This gives you the option of dialing up or holding over.

I prefer Mil over MOA but that's another debate. I since you are just starting I would see what your buddies are running so you can call corrections for each other.
