Illuminated Reticle questions?

Hello all,
I am trying to put together a shooting system for predators. What do you all think about scopes with the illuminated reticles? There are several out there that are reasonably priced. I haven't hunted at night yet but, figured it would be real useful for dusk and dawn shots. Would the spotlight overpower it at night or would it just be a waste? Thanks.

I put the Leupold Ill. Ret. Vari x-3 4.5-14 on my .243. I wish that I wouldn't have. The Leupold does not have a decent on/off switch. It just has a turret knob that spins too freely. What this means is that you're going to have a dead battery when you go to use it! Those battteries are expensive. I started storing the battery upside down so that it wouldn't get accidently turned on. What a pain!
The bushnell firefly might be an easier plan of action.

My partner and I both use illuminated Millet scopes. THey have a really low setting which keeps the light from the crosshairs from "washing" out the sight picture. The older Millets like mine have both red or green illuminated crosshairs. The gree works great when looking at reds eyes at night.

For a scope dot, check out the mueller line.
I just got one the other day. Still need to mount so the jury , for me, is still out. One thing is, the dot is very small.

Check out the Bushnell 3200 Elite Rainguard Firefly scopes. I have one and it is great for dusk/dawn situation. The firefle works by just hitting the reticle with a little light from a small flashlight(no batteries required). The other plus is this scope absolutely does not fog up! I have the 5 to 15 power and highly reccomend it!

I have a Burris Fullfield II 3.5-10x50 LRS. Love it. Geat optic/reasonable price. (It has a great on/off switch) Check it out, cant beat it for the money.

FireGregE8, Like Samuel, I recently purchased a Mueller red dot illuminated scope for my Encore .223. I have shot my 3-9x40 in normal & reduced light, and it works very well. Unlike the problem Ravhunter experienced, the Mueller has a tight knob rotation with a highly variable intensity range. I have another brand scope with illuminated reticle (crosshairs) and the red dot is much easier for me to put on target. Plus, IMHO the Mueller's are not terribly expensive, support is very good, and they have good glass.

Here's their website, if you're interested:

I have a 8X56 russian scope with lit reticle, has 2 brightness settings cost less than $100 from kalinka optics.the tube is really short makes it hard to mount on some guns...

I second the Bushnell Elite 3200 Firefly.

The only downfall is that the center of the crosshairs does not illuminate so I sighted in using the top of the bottom cross hair post.

The plus's are that it can be charged for the entire night with a single 2 minute charge from a small led flashlight. You don't have to worry about leaving it on and running the battery down & the 3200 has almost all of the 4200 features which is their top of the line. Bought my 3x9x 40mm for $170
