I’m wanting a good tripod setup

I have been using the bog death grip in aluminum for a few years it’s really nice and stable
They also make a carbon fiber model but it’s only a pound lighter and a hundred dollars more
The model you show here looks like around $600 ... ouch !

I think when it comes to tripods a guy should look at what comp shooters use. RRS is top of the line but expensive. Another good setup is the Innorel RT90C and a Dlow 55 ball head. You definitely want to get a tripod without a center extension.

After much research I still spent more than I wanted and got the Innorel ST344C (a little lighter than the RT90C), Artcise LB52 ball head, Bog Ultra-lite Deathgrip vise, and Bog fluid head. The ST344C also comes with a leveling head. I direct mount my AR with a Pic/Arca-Swiss adapter, mount my bolt action rifle with the Deathgrip and can mount my spotting scope/binos with the fluid head. The tripod is very sturdy and easy to adjust, and the ball head works really well.

I have been running the Kopfjager unit for several years and highly recommend it. The curved saddle grips very well and they make a rubber insert now for smaller weapons.

The leveling head under the saddle is a must for me for getting a level track when swinging on running hogs and helps to set up more quickly on uneven ground.

I really like my tripod from Night Goggles. I took this buck at about 175 yards or so, could not have made the shot w/o the tripod. Rock steady, when seated, about as good as shooting from the bench.

Kirsch, I’ve been eying up the Pro tripod from Night Goggles. You don’t by chance know if they are made in the states or overseas do you? I’d imagine most companies are getting them overseas but it’d be nice to have one made right here in the states. Probably wishful thinking on my part!

Here is our current selection. It comes with an Arca rail that you can install in minutes, we've done 3 installs in just over 15 minutes and they were on Manners Elite Shell Stocks.

A significant upgrade from anything we've used other than RRS, these are just as good.

I've got that same Reaper Grip. Just so you know it swivels and tilts but it does not cant if that matters to you.
I can't comment on the tripod but if you want to go with a direct mount Reaper Grip and a traditional ball head, with that tripod, it will cost you a little more money but if you hunt in hilly terrain it will probably be worth it.
You're not going to find a USA made tripod in that price range but there are options that are not made in China.

I use the same one. Seems to work.

$140 on Amazon right now.

RRA or 2 Vets.... I'm running a 2 Vets and there is almost zero difference in it and the RRS except $350. Both have only two leg sections and are SUPER strong. I run a couple different heads but for the most rock solid setup, look at a self leveling head. Leophoto YB75 head and Swiss/Arca connections

If your on a budget get the Innorel RT90 tripod from Amazon, about $300 and a HUGE upgrade from what you have and uses the 75mm bowl.

IMO don't waste money on any ball head, I have one of the best and its not nearly as stable or easy to use as a leveling bowl and I've never had an issue with needing more travel. You live in the exact same topography as I do and the YB75 head is where its at.....

Kino thanks for all that info!

Is this all the right stuff you speak of for your setup? I may have to really consider this! That tripod has a higher weight rating than any I’ve seen so far.

Yep thats exactly what I'm talking about, good.

Leophoto has that head as well as one with a lever instead of that big screw on the side. Im running the lever version that is a little more but I think it's worth it. Look on 2 Vets site, its on there.

I’ve been using a bog pod tripod for a few years and prefer it. I do a lot of walking into spot and don’t want to haul a heavy bipod in addition to caller and and rifle. Not to mention if you have to drag a coyote or something back with you.

I think they have changed up the models since I got mine but it is similar to the adrenaline

I love mine

I just got a Bog Death Grip. I haven't hunted with it yet but have been playing with it. Time will tell if it holds up but it is plenty functional IMO. The only way I would pay more for a tripod is if I were a pro and could write it off.

It depends what you want to spend. If you want a “good” tripod I would say be prepared to spend in the $900 range. I know a lot of guys here will tell you that a $150-$300 set up is as good as any blah blah. They aren’t. You get what you pay for. If you are only looking for a gun holder or to be able to shoot 100 yards then a lot of those budget setups will work but I won’t put a 10k rifle on a $150 tripod.

The best tripod I have found for the money is the Two Vets QDT. I know guys that have traded in RRS $1400 legs for them and are happy. The two vets legs can be had right around $575 I think. They legs are only good as the head you put on them but between the rrs leveling head and the bh55 you have some solid options. The feisol legs are “good” but for $25 or so less than the QDT it’s a no brainer, they aren’t even close to the stability of the Two Vets.

Rrs make the best legs out there but you will pay for them and dollar for dollar I’m not sure they are even %5 better than the Two Vets.

I have heard of some other companies making some really decent legs recently but haven’t Travis any of them.

IMO clamps are a noGo. An arca rail that the gun can’t slide in and out of is huge and an absolute must. (I had a buddy drop my pulsar out of one and shattered it)

We have desmond dcf432 pods and a slick 700 for backup. They have a center stem and we do well out beyond 300 with them. I have put some effort into balancing my gun though. The Desmond is no longer available and Im trying to decide what I will get if mine fails. I adjust the center stem about every stand but never have it up more than 2 inches. I'm curious how legs with no stem would be as far as having a consistent height on different terrain. I use bh55 ballheads and have a rrs leveling base. I did not care for the leveling base. My ballheads has the lever style clamp which is fast and I really like it but I would never carry the pod over my shoulder with a gun in it. Seems unnecessary and risky. I watched my buddy dump his.
