Improvised battery pack for pulsar thermal

Got a pulsar hd38a and am thinking of rigging up a battery pack out of the myriad of portable USB battery packs out there. Any one tried this yet? The unit sucks batteries like it is its job. The pulsar eps battery packs sound like they really work and for $150 they should. Being a cheapskate as times are tough with fur prices😂

I agree after researching this some more. Looks like to power from a external source they would need voltage from 8.4 v to 15 v. Yet the battery pack supplies 4-6 volts. I think the USB battery packs do around 5 v so agree I don't think the USB route will work.

There are a lot of battery packs that will supply 12v power. Just look around some on Amazon or E-bay and you'll find them.

And not that you couldn't make something yourself, but the EPS3 (or EPS3I) comes with a clamp to mount the battery to the picatiny rail on the monocular.

I used a battery from an old underwater camera, attached a cigarette lighter adapter and carried it in my gear bag. Works great. Also works to charge foxpro and provide power to external monitor. They cost about $10-20 with charger.

Not HD38A related, but my biggest complaint about Pulsar and the external battery pack is that if the male power plug isn't firm. If you move it and it turns it loses power to the unit and it cuts off. Super annoying when shooting.

I am running 3 18650s in a series for 11volts. I also soldered a 2.1mm to a 4 pack of 18650s. I'm running 8 volts on it but alot of MaH so I found I got 10hrs on 1 set of 4 batteries

I was looking to make a battery pack for my 19s as well. A pal has a 12v pack coming in off amazon he paid about $30 for. I found out fast that the standard usb packs wont work due to them being 5v as stated above, even the one I have thats 9v wont turn the unit on.
I tried a lithium 9v battery with leads to the 19a external port and that didn't work either.

I ended up digging out an old lightforce battery pack that had a burnt out dimmer switch. I removed the switch and plan to just use the cigarette lighter cord. Not a perfect solution but this will work for us. I will let you guys know what I am getting for run time but I would expect a full night or more with the size of the sla battery. Don't waste your time on anything less than 12 v imo.
