Martyn do you have any load info that you can share using RL-17? It's available here, but I haven't seen any 22-250 data.
Yes, I have some RL-17 loads. But, I only used it for 60 grain bullets, along with IMR-4350. I was discussing working with 60 grain bullets in my 22-250 with Ackleyguy who posts here. He gave me the low down on using the 4350. Since RL-17 came on line, and since it is very close to 4350 in burn rate, I just used the 4350 data from the loading manuals. The promises of RL-17 giving higher velocities is something I could not ignore. IIRC, Ackleyguy uses 39.0 grains of 4350 with 60 grain bullets. That's at the high end for a powder charge, so I started well below that for openers.
I had read on another Forum that guys had actually used IMR-4350 load data when working up RL-17 loads, so that is the basis for me doing the same thing.
For 55 grain bullets, I'll stick with a known load that does shoot well in my particular rifle. It is 32.6 grains of Benchmark with Sierra's 55 grain HPBT, with Federal 210M primers. I shot a 1/4" group at 100 yards with this load using a 36x scope I use for load development. That fine group makes my 22-250 my most accurate sporter. But, I gotta say the Varget was VERY close to the Benchmark load in accureacy.

Edit to add: I seat bullets .010 off the lands, so that's the seating depth for the loads above. That .010 distance is from my centerfire benchrest shooting days. It worked then, and works now, where magazine length will permit. Magazine length dictates otherwise.
