So i have been trying to work up a load with a few different hornady pills in my AR and so far have not been getting anything acceptable for groups. I have tried ar comp and benchmark along with cci sr and rem 7 1/2 primers and a few different oal all with no luck.

I have been wanting to try some 8208 xbr but its basically been none existant around here. Anyway local store finally got some 8lbers of it in and im wondering what are peoples thoughts on jumping right in to an 8lb jug of un-tested powder??

The price is not rediculius at $165 but im not sure if i am wasting my time with these hornady pills or if I just need to find the right powder.

+1 on the last post...buy with confidence. If your rifle don't group after trying several loads with that powder I would start looking at the rifle. I even use that powder in my 7mm-08 and again as above it works great. I would like to find 8 pounds of it for that price around here off the shelf!!!!

yes, I have heard lots of good things about it, im only hesitant at buying 8lbs without having tried it. If it were a 1lb bottle I would be posting results rather than asking questions

.

What kind of velocity can be had from a 20in 223 with a 55gr? 8 twist. I have been clocking 3050fps av with 25gr ar comp with 55gr pills. benchmarck took another .5gr to see the same speed and accuracy was basically identical.

I may regret it but i think im going to sleep in it and decide tomorrow if I want to go with an 8lb jug. just dont want to be stuck with that much product I dont have use for.

Instead of trying different powders why not try some different brand bullets. I know that I could not get the v-maxes to shoot very well out of 2 of my ar's. But when I switched to nossler's it was night and day difference. I know bullets are hard to find also but some one might be able to trade you a few to try.

I have loads for different sierra's that shoot real nice. also have a couple for noslers that shoot well too and have some bullets of each on hand. but I had bought a pile of these and hoping to use them mainly on pdogs and other vermin maybe coyotes too. they are cheap is mainly why I want to shoot them.

but your right, Im getting to the point that they might not be worth any more time.

I think that while there is a chance that you might stumble onto a powder that makes that bullet shoot slightly better I would sell or trade for a bullet my gun likes and is accurate with whatever powder you have been using. Looks like you are coming to that conclusion anyway!

I have been loading it behind a 40gr Hornady with excellent results out of a RRA coyote carbine and a DPMS . Both 16 " 1:9 twist barrels... As a matter of fact I and going to try the same powder and bullet combo in My Rem model 7 in 22-250 this weekend.

For me, nothing wrong with using 8208 in a .223. It produced adequate results for me and I like the way it meters.

I use it in other cartridges too with decent results. About a month or so ago, I was leaving the Shilen (barrel) swapfest in Ennis, Tx when a dealer nearest the exit door put out some 8208 for $15 a lb. Even though I had one or two lbs at home, I bought some more knowing I could use it in many of the cartridges I reload.

Depends on how much Benchmark and AR Comp you have; If you don`t have a decent amount of powder on hand then I wouldn`t hesitate to buy 8 Lbs without trying it. I say this because of the results I have seen posted and hi regards given it by other members here, not to mention the scarcity of just about anything else...still.

I'd buy it. You will be happy with it. I use it in my 6x45, 223, and will be trying some in my 243 soon.

It's like Varget, but more meter-able.

Just buy the powder. It may or may not make your specific bullets shoot well, but 8208 is a great over all powder and will make most bullets shoot to satisfaction.

Thanks for input. I did let them pass and are now sold out. Soon as i come across a 1lb can im going to give it a try.

Will post up groups and chrony results when i do.
