IMR3031

I used it in my Ruger Number 1 with the 55 grain Noslers. It would give me nice clover leaf three shot 100 yard groups too. 40 grains of it was right at 3800 fps. I just used a regular LR primer.

I got some IMR-3031 free a while back, used it before too. It has worked fine but I usually want shorter sticks or a better metering powder. I’m currently loading 7.5 Swiss and 150 grain bullets with 3031, milder loads.

Thanks to all.

After going through all my gunpowder, I found that I ended up
with way more than needed for my smokeless muzzle loader which
does best with heavier 300gr & up bullets using 3031. Was hoping
the same would be true with the .243 using heavier bullets for
the caliber. Just goes to prove they are two vastly different
worlds. It would take a long time to use it up in the .204R!

Yes, with heavier bullets in the 243 I would go with a slower powder than 3031. There may be data from the Hodgdon site, I’m usually in the 4350 range with 95-100 grain bullets in the 243.

If I’m just loading some casual plinking type loads, most anything with reputable data works.

I use IMR3031 in my 15" Encore barrel with the 87 VMax and it is a superb combination. Tried a lot of combinations of bullets and powder, lots of reloading books have data for the 243 using 3031 so its not like you are trying something unheard off. That barrel has a 1-10 twist.

When I use 105's in the 7.5 twist I use H100v
