Inexpensive Headlamp?

Pickens

I'm looking to get a headlamp for scanning when I'm out at night, however, I am in college so I'm looking for a headlamp around $50. Anyone have any headlamps in mind?

Thanks

Is that just a Cree headlamp with a different color head band? They sure look alot alike.

Use the Rosco link in the Filter Post to see if it's available locally. If not ebay works.

Don't buy the packs on ebay that have 4 sheets the red is too dark.

I have three of the headlamps that I've been using for 2 years. 2 broke this year at the hinge on the same night. I veclroed them in a fixed position and they work fine, that hinge is a weak point. I was almost going to buy the Knox but the three AA batteries and the week hinge detered me. Eventually it's going to break.

You can see farther with a red LED than filterd light. I carry a red LED flashlight to scan with in addition to the headlamp when I feel I need it. Can't beat headlamp for convenince walking in and out. They are also useful year round for all kinds of stuff.

pmack,
I'm still waiting for my headlamp to break at that hinge, I figured that would be the failure point. I might gut one of those things and mount the light somehow to a better, more adjustable bracket. I usually just keep mine closed and pull it up or down on the head to get the elevation I want. I really like the Li-Ion 18650 model I have, it's worked quite well.

snowcamoman,
For the money and versatilty those lights are hard to beat. I recommended them to others and their hinges broke before mine. It was odd I broke 2 in one night. I cut a wedge and velcroed it in place. I wear it high on forehead to scan and pull it down when I want to search the ground. It's actually more convenient and solid than the hinge.
