Infra-red & Coyotes

Can anybody tell me if a coyote can see infra-red light. I have seen some I-R spotlights and was wondering if this spooks them? I live in Pa. and the coyotes are very shy of lights at night. I am seriously thinking of going to night-vision equip. and was wondering if they could detect it when you shine their eyes?

You aren't allowed to use night vision here in Pa. Stick with a red predator light and keep it as low as possible. I'm not sure if they can see infrared or not in regard to your question, I don't think they can........

I have 2 IR illuminators on my 22-250 I use for night stalking hogs . and I have called in some coyote that I don't think picked it up that I know. and I lit up a couple over the years..works well on cats.
but my hand held dive light I use for PA works well, I never thought I needed NV with IR.
stick with a red lens 250,000 candle power light in PA. i think i have about $1,300. into my night vision and i don't think it's needed to kill coyotes
BUT IT's FUN ON HOGS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS
PA is a funny place when it come to rules,,
the law tells you that you cant project a been onto your pry. witch a hand held light or a gun mounted light will do. and so will IR even thought it can be seen to the naked eye .. witch is fine with me.
but tipical night vision without IR don't project a been and you still can use them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

But it looks like now you can mount a light to your gun.
witch i think many that think it's a grate thing will soon learn that it just a pain and most will go back to just a hand held light.

I feel for you guys in PA with wacky rules but all states have their snafu's.

So far as NV ...... most have illuminators built on to them.

A good friend has Gen IV scopes and they have infared illuminators as well. And he believes that real shy animals DO see these lights ..... at least the civilian copies of them. (He's a predator control agent)

It would require the clandestien versions to obtain total concealment (LE and Military equipment).

When we look at the front of these illuminators we see a very small red dot and our theory is that at the very least a very cagy predator's eyes are drawn to the movement of swinging the gun's illuminator red dot to bear and thus they make out the form of the shooter.

My advice is to get a Light Force light with the reostat (controls brightness) and let the NV vision game work itself out better equipment for less money and figure out your latest states' laws. The coyotes you have to pass on with a LF light tonight will be there tomorrow.

I have played with lights on tripods ....... on vehichles ....... hand held ....... hand held by a partner ......... for more than three decades .........

.... and nothing touches Light Force!

I have used various IR illuminators and Gen III monoculors for the past couple of years...primarely to predator hunt with. I have held the illuminator directly on the animal while he came walking in, sometimes for minutes at a time, and have yet to have one act as if the illuminator bothered them.
If they see me at all, it is usually because I made the mistake of moving at the wrong time or to much...but not from the laser or IR illuminator.
