installing new stock on m16

Can I remove the a2 stock on my m16 and install a collapsible stock. I know I would have to put a new buffer tube, spring and buffer if it will even work. My worries are will I be okay with a carbine tube from the collapsible stock since it is a rifle length gas tube.

What makes you think that the gas tube is set for rifle length stocks?

Have you seen gas tubes that are for sale that are different based on the type of stock you have?

just curious, i am thinking about building one in the future.

I have ran 223rem Carbine, mid, and Rifle length uppers, 6.8spc mid-length and 6.5 Grendel rifle length, and 204R rifle length uppers all on the same lowers, one an A2 rifle buffer set up and one a carbine buffer set up.

As long as you match up your buffer length and your tube length properly, then feed it enough gas, it'll run.

okay when I called brownells to order a collapsible stock and they heard it was for a m16 they said it will not work because the timing will be off when I switch to the carbine length buffer since the m16 is rifle length gas system. They also said that when it is run full auto it will cause even more havoc.

Yup

Match your parts and you should be good to go:Carbine Buffer/Tube/Spring or Rifle Buffer/Tube/Spring
