iPhone app for measuring decibels

Has anyone used an iPhone app for measuring decibel levels of suppressed shots? I know that lots of factors go into the measuring, and I wouldn't be using the data for any kind of marketing, or anything like that. The numbers don't have to be accurate to any particular standard, just repeatable for day to day comparisons.

Basically what I am wanting to do is measure noise levels on various 22 RF ammunition shot through my Spectre II, just for my own private use. I have a whole bunch of different 22 ammo, and I am going to be testing it for accuracy. I thought if there was an easy way to measure noise levels, I would include that on my chart as well as I log data. I am looking for a good blend of accuracy and low noise level.

Range conditions and having repeatable conditions should be fairly easy for me. I have a private range here at work where no one else will be shooting. I have a concreted in bench, and I could put in a stand for the iPhone where it would be in the exact same location every day. Basically I can shoot anytime I want.

Some of you guys who have done some testing like this, jump in and give me your thoughts on whether there is an easy way to do what I want.

it doesn't quite work that easy because of the threshold of volume your phones microphone can actually capture.
Basically...anything over "x" db all sounds the same.
Suppressed 22 rim fire may or may not be below that threshold.

In order for it to work, you would likely have to put the phone far enough away that the sound dissipates to a measurable level...and when you do that, you're only adding variables that skew numbers.

OK, nevermind. I was getting the cart before the horse. I just figured out something that all you 22 suppressed shooters probably already knew. It is either subsonic, or it isn't. If it isn't subsonic, it cracks. If it is subsonic, then it is movie time quiet. You don't need an app to tell you what works, it is reaaaaallly obvious. So for my testing I will either just check the subsonic or not box on my chart.

I was shooting some Winny M-22 this morning, and it was cracking through that metal building I shoot out of really bad. It says MV of 1250, and I believe it. Then I tried some CCI Standard Velocity this afternoon, and all I can say is WOW. It was just like the action would clack, and the bullet would thump, and that was it.

So now I feel pretty stupid for having started this thread.

If you can find Remington 22lr Subsonic Ammo It is very quite thru my Sparrow suppressor , and also a hollow point for small game destruction.
