Is ejection pattern alone enough to diagnose being overgasse

Went and sighted in the new rifle. Larue Stealth barrel, aero upper, can't remember who makes the lo pro gas block. Bolt and carrier out of my old SWMP15 OR carbine.

Gun very consistently ejects to about 2 o'clock. Brass lit in a near perfect pile about 2 feet from the bench I was shooting on. No casings have large dents or damage beyond the normal little ding from hitting the deflector.

Is it worth getting an adjustable gas block at this point? Would a heavier buffer be worth trying it is this ejection OK?

I'd run it just as it is. It loads and ejects and is not tearing stuff up. I'd be happy. If I'm not getting bent rims and early flattening of primers I would not be concerned. Being a bit over gassed is not all that bad. Better 100% function with some wiggle room than running at minimums.

how do the case heads look? pics are helpful.

wondering if youre getting extractor/ejector swipes due to lock time, etc

Sorry for photobucket, I havent had a chance to create a profile with any other image hosting websites. Here is 5 brass grabbed for a quick photo.

First photo shows ding from deflector.

Was trying to show scuffs on the side of this one, cant see from the glare but they may be from the magazine aswell. I was using a Lancer mag.

Another side of the same case.

One case has these marks, none of the others did that I noticed.

Another side of that case.

Let me know if you need better pics. I just wasnt seeing much to photograph but can get anything if needed.

No I didnt. I use Google chrome and downloaded an extension that is supposed to fix the Photobucket thing. Did they post OK?

Thanks ya this image is the reason I am asking. I've seen thread of over gassed guns that not only eject forward but seem to rip cases apart. Mine doesn't seem to be doing any more damage to the cases than an AR normally does so I wanted to check in and get oppinions. I don't really want to buy an adjustable gas block so I didn't know of running it this way would be OK or if I should just give a good heavy buffer a try.

you could always try bumping the buffer weight up to like an H2. all that should do is slow the carrier acceleration down a bit.

a couple of tungsten slugs on amazon is like $20, take ya about 3 mins to swap them out if you have a set of hole punches laying around.

Just an update I took the gun out again and shot in a 2 gun match. When the gun is cold it ejects to about the 3-330 range. After the gun started warming up and 90 rounds later it went back to its perfect little 2 o clock ejection. I think for now Ill order some buffer weights and experiment but when I get a scope for this gun its going to be more or less a dedicated coyote rifle and maybe it will see the 500 yard range but it wont be my plinker so I doubt it will get that warm again.

Sounds like your chamber is a little grabby, probably because it is tight.

You have a good idea about experimenting, just keep good notes so you can nail down it's behavior.

I would leave it, next time out you might have different ammo and be throwing brass at 3-4 o'clock, point it does it work, and if yes leave it alone. If the cases are flying over the barrel or back over your shoulder, that's a different story, different ammo will toss em different, main thing is do they fire, eject, and feed, empty brass at 2-4 0'clock call it good.
