Is the BSA Contender Target rifle scope truly a contender???

I've been looking for a 14x or a little more rifle scope for somewhere in the $100 neighborhood and this one looks good to me, however I haven't heard alot about these scopes, their reliability, etc. Anyone have any feed back??

My Father-in-law has a BSA Sweet 17 on his HMR and it seems to be a fairly nice scope for the money. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I have read some very bad reviews on these scopes...But I purchased 2 in spite of that because the price was tooooo good. One has worked out fine...no problems at all...it is a BSA 6-18x40 with target knobs. It worked fine for 6 months ...but it was on a .222 I just sold that rifle scope combo....but the scope was fine...The other was a BSA CATSEYE...I returned it to the store for $ on ammo....I never could get it to hold Zero...it moved all over the place with the recoil from a .243 targets looked like they had been hit with OOBuck from a 12 ga...

I would go with a Simmons A-tec they are made by Blount, same folks that own Speer, RCBS, CCI, Redfield....the list goes on and on...Blount is a giant in the shooting industry...but the are well known for their customer service. So one of their products is a safe bet...at least they will make good on all issues.

Jus my 2 pennies worth.

I have the 8 x 32 40mm on my little .221 carbine. Its ok I have used it to do load development on several rifles up to .260 Rem with no problems. They are not the clearest, they don't pass the box test, they don't do real well cranked up past about 20x...can't hardly see thru mine, they have a strange rubberized finish on them that can slip and peal thru rings. If you can live with those issues they're fine. Mine holds zero, functions well on that rifle and cost me less than $90....I can live with it....I would not however want another.

i had a sweet 17 on my win. lowall 17 & it worked fine for about a year, then the adjustments fell apart. bsa replaced it, but by that time I had put on an old redfield 6x with a dot & i just put the bsa replacement in a drawer for the next gunshow. Try looking at the opticzone.com and take a look at the muellers. Been very satisfied and they are quite inexpensive.
