I haven't used the still cottontail call but have used a number of Primos calls and all do the job they are intended to do. This is a simple closed reed call and is plumb easy to learn to use. Calls such as this are the bread and butter of the calling industry. There will be directions on the back of the call that explain the manipulation of the call. The real effectiveness come from the guy blowing the call. If you put some feeling into the call, you will get results.

Place your decoy up-wind 10 to 20 yards. When you see a coyote, go quiet and let the decoy do its work. If the coyote slows or loses interest, make kissing sounds to it in order to get it back on track.

To use the call, you do blow into it but with some feeling. Imagine a baby crying and that is the soft stuff. Imagine a toddler having a raging fit and you are getting there. Remember, you are trying to mimic a rabbit fighting for its life. The individual cries are generally one to three seconds. A series of cries can be 15 seconds or until your air runs out, that is up to you. A stand can be from 10 minutes to a half hour.

It takes about a half minute to understand how to blow the call. Don't puff your cheeks, blow from the diaphragm and use your hand to manipulate back pressure and muffle sound. Again, when you sound like a bunny being pulled in half with salad tongs, you have it pretty much down pat.

This call also does great Kiyis, if you pull the mouth piece off and rake your front teeth across the little reed as you blow.

Think of wind like water - it flows.

If your decoy is upwind of you AND you are looking at the decoy AND the wind is hitting the decoy BEFORE it hits you in the face, the decoy is upwind of you and you are downwind of the decoy.

As you may have seen posted, it is understood that coyotes prefer to get downwind of their intended prey in an attempt to confirm and identify if it is food and if there is danger or competition associated with that food source. Hope that helps.

Upwind is blowing your scent away from the game or towards you.

Downwind your stink is blowing right to the game you are hunting.

Hope that makes sense?

i think i got it now but whats your opinion of the call? i've never went coyote hunting so i need a call that is easy to use and will bring the coyotes to me
