Is this what is called a red coyote?

Is this a red coyote on the left?

It looks more like a coydog to me.

He has a coyote face, but the red only shows up from the back or lower side. The top and front angles don't look so red. I'm trying to decide if I should tan his hide.

The yotes in se arizona have alot of red on ther fur.I would tan him it looks like a good fur.

The color looks like all the coyotes I shoot here in eastern Oklahoma, I call them rusty. Brent

That is why I asked, I have never seen one that colored here before. They are either dark grey, light grey or black.

That's 100% "coyote"; just a different subspecies than is normally killed in AZ. A trophy for sure! I'd tan it!

Red or not i would have shot him. Looks like a nice size yote, i dont see to many people gettin dogs out of AR...mabey i dont pay close enough attention. Congrats on the two dogs!

arkansas is where i get most of my coyotes , but i havent ran into to many people calling coyotes most of the ones i know uses dogs,
In norther arkansas we have what i call copper colored and grey and almost black coyotes,so u never know what color ur going to call up lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks guys, I'm going to skin him out and get him tanned. I was stunned at his color and size when I walked up on him.

It was an older dog and it worked in like the big males always do. It was lots of fun to get this coyote to work over 200yds into a hand call.
