ithaca deer slayer help

so I was at a big box store and found an Ithaca deer slayer in mint cond for $199.99 used. I asked the guy last night whats wrong with the gun because that's a $600+ gun for $200 he got real skittish and said nothings wrong with it, what would make you think that?

I went in tonight to get it and asked a guy I know whats wrong with it and he says had it for along time, gunsmith couldn't fix it so the guy sold it to us but he wasn't sure whats wrong.

one thing is how can they sell the gun broken and say nothings wrong with it.

im wondering if I can call Ithaca and get them to warranty the gun or would this be a no go?

anyone have experience with this?

im not sure, I asked the guy I know whats wrong cause its $200 and he said not sure all I know is it was sent to the gunsmith and he couldn't figure it out for the "look at fee" and the owner didn't want to pay to have it fixed, said it wasn't worth it.

from what ive gathered is this thing might be worth some $ if its an older era but I don't want to get in over my head.

ive got no clue anything about this gun other than I shot one years ago and fell in love.

im just wondering if im getting in over my head.

im going to try and call the gunsmith and see what the issue was and what he thinks and then call Ithaca because their website says the only person certified to work on them is Ithaca.

you guys think its worth the hassle?

Slick snot--not sure if that's a crack because of previous conversations but Can we offer some insight.

Shotgun with probs, walk away.....

My way of thinking. 200 bucks is a potential great deal. Get the big box manager to take the trigger lock off.
1 look for stock and forearm cracks that you cant fix.
2 try to pull the action open without pushing the release button.if the action is locked solid we are half way home.
3 snap the trigger and see if works
4 check the safety function
5 get the ganager to show you that it will feed ammo from the magazine to the chamber.
6. Buy it and try it. I would not be surprised to find nothing wrong.

Read your post again. Mint condition for 200 bucks. I would buy it. You could buy a beat up ithaca 12 and swap the internal over if you have too. Not a whole.lot that can go wrong. Feeding firing extraction. All fixable.

I've got a slug gun now but when I seen it was an older one I said this has to be worth money. I shined a light in the chamber and the bore is mint, the chamber seems a little dirty but nothing some cleaner cant fix.

the reason I was asking about it is ive never seen a bottom eject shotgun like this other than the one I shot and when he said issues I figured someone with more knowledge could help me.

his comment the original owner said it was too much to fix had me worried cause I don't want to pay 200 for it and have to put 300 in it. id like to know how much they have the poor guy for it if its an original.

If it has "issues" , it's not mint condtion.

I myself could prob figure it out, fix it. I'm not sure based on all your "problem" posts on here, that you should get involved.

If you are a gambler, buy it. If not, walk a way....

I meant mint as in no scratches, rust, etc. sorry should have elaborated. when the store opens ill call the smith and see what the issue was, have them hold it and call Ithaca and see how much.

Got it..

FWIW... the smith at the store , must not really be a smith. If he was he'd fix it and up the price.

Very few box stores I've been in have a "real" smith.

Good luck !

Problems or not its a deer slayer in "mint" physical appearance, $200 price leave a lot of room to be fixed. I would grab it.
