jackrabbit vs. cottontail distress calls

Our local sporting goods store only have jackrabbit calls and our rabbits around here are mostly cottontails. Not knowing anything about rabbits I wondered how much difference there is between the two calls and if I could pass off the Jackrabbit for a cottontail. Thanks

Actually the difference in sounds, jack is usually more raspy, is a good thing. It will sometimes evoke a response when others won't. The same goes for snowshoe hare, it works. Your swamp rabbits are likely similar to the jack as they are much larger than most cottontails... I've never heard a swamp rabbit distress but I would imagine it to be very loud and raspy, but then again maybe not. Every animal is unique.
Predators respond to distress of any kind. They are after an already hurt or injured easy meal! Almost any "hurt" sound will work!

CWW the above post said it they are looking for a easy meal
In my hunting area I would not go with just one distress. I have had sets where they would not come in to a call and try another call and they will come in. It seems to be just what they like for a sound that day. I would suggest having a couple diffrent ones with you in the field.IMO
