Jarhead

How many people liked the movie Jarhead? I just watched it for the first time yesterday and it is the best movie that I have seen in a long time. Had some funny parts in it to boot, which made it pretty good.

I give it a 10.

I couldn't stand that movie. I still have yet to watch the whole thing through and I've tried several times.

Some of it shows some truth as to what happens in everyday USMC life and I got a chuckle from it, but the majority of it was a pile of crap.

Kind of like Talledega Knights. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I liked the part when Jamie foxx told them,

"So far you have been taught 'Thou shalt not kill', F**K THAT S**T".........

I was a grunt not a jarhead, but we're pretty much the same in the sandbox, and I thought it did the Marines a disservice. There are better movies about modern warfare, Black Hawk Down being one. None of the Marines I know would have cried over not being able to shoot someone, or would have wanted to rewatch video of their friends wife cheating on them.

Well all in all I thought it was a good movie. Yea they used the f word alot but thats how it really is. Just got to ignore it I guess.

What has been said here pretty much sums up what I thought of the little bit of the movie I watched. Pretty lame and Like I said, I got tired of hearing the "F" word. I was in the Navy, worked side by side with Marines, and occasionally Air Force and it wasn't used every other word.

Yea youre right. Not every other word like they use it in the movie. But when me and my dad watched it he told me when he was in the army thats all they knew was f this and f that.

I have only watched it once and I didnt like it all that much.I like Full Metal Jacket,We Were Soldiers, and Saving Private Ryan the most. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I thought it was pretty dry also, have seen better. The F word did'nt bother me, we used it alot when i was in the service..

I read the book and had no desire to watch the movie. The tone of the book was too much of a crybaby, look how I was treated sort of thing so I did not care for it much.

I knew a bunch of guys in the first Gulf War. Marines, Army, Air Force, etc. One Marine I knew had the misfortune to escort his counsin's body home (Army). He had a reason to piss and moan and I never heard any of that crap from him.

I was in the Marines as a machinegunner not long after the 1st Gulf War and it does give a good depiction of the life of a grunt. Yes we cursed alot, but it was one of those things that you just did without thinking. I didn't like the fact that this guy couldn't handle the stresses of being a Marine. Of course our women cheated on us and yes I can account for a nasty video of a poor Marine's wife with 2 other men and the poor guy had to go on suicide watch for 4 days. I'm disgraced that they made a movie about a guy who obviously was not a good Marine and gives us a bad name. Most of the guys like that get weeded out during the different phases of training with either a Section 8 ( looney ) or a medical discharge. I loved the Marine Corps and I would do it all over again if I was given the choice.
3/1 1st Marine Division

I was not a marine but I was active duty Army and I also saw action in the first Gulf War. I was not impressed with this movie at all. I thought it was poorly done and for the most part was horse pucky. It pales in comparison to Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers and The Thin Red Line.

If you want to watch a new movie that stars Jamie Foxx, which was excellant by the way, rent "The Kingdom".

Oh, it's not a bad book to read. Just be prepared to not feel too sorry for the author. Nevertheless, it's his story to tell as he sees fit. I just didn't like the constant whiney tone the book had.

It's not as good as "Pegasus Bridge" by Ambrose or many other well written military books.
