Jeep Rubicon as a Hunting Rig

Anyone here using a Jeep Rubicon as a hunting rig? My wife just bought me a 2009. Only color we could find was white, but I plan to get it camo wrapped anyway, so I wasn't too concerned about color. I've wanted one for years, and made up my mind to get one someday, especially when I saw the price of the side by side atv's which have no doors, no heat, no A/C, and cannot be used on road. We were going to wait, but with the situation at Chrysler decided to do it now. With the bankruptcy, it's probably too late to get a 2010 model out. Even if someone buys the Jeep line, will they keep the Rubicon the way it is or strip it of all the good stuff? Anyone use a Rubicon as a hunting vehicle? If so what do you think of it?

I'll post pics after camoing. Finding the materials is easy. Finding someone to install it(who knows what they're doing-not me)is not.

mine is a wrangler
lift it 2-4 inches
run bf goodrich all terrain
kiliminjaro rack boltED to the frame outer frame
warn lights can't be beat (i don't need a winch...i never drive over the mountain...although i could...i walk over it to hunt)
change the bumpers
keep it quiet and efficient with a borla exhaust and muffler
k&n air filter (for all those dusty roads)
dirty up the rims (you probably have chrome ones)
stick it against any bush or tree
and hunt your heart out
ANYWHERE !!!

I know a few rubi owners out here & of course they use them for hunting. Its only to bad they put that V6 in it though.
All the owners like them, but wished they got better gas mileage & had more low end torque.
Most have been worked over with bumpers, winches, lifts and a bigger tire/wheel combo. You can end up spending a good amount of money on all the goods that are available for them & more money in labor costs to have someone do the work.
I do all my own work.....:)

First thing you'll need is some sort of carry all basket whether it be hitch mounted or spare tire mounted. If you go hitch mounted, make sure you get the raised version, my carry all drags on steep inclines with my stock wrangler. There is no room in the interior of a Jeep, safari style roof rack would be a help if you're hauling much gear. I'm considering one of those rock crawling front bumpers with the 2" receiver in it. It would be nice to be able to haul gear and game in front of the vehicle instead of behind and getting all yur stuff dusted up or muddy. Mine is a Sahara, it "had" carpet in it, that was one of the first things to go. Carpet in a Jeep is just something else to hold water and smells, if you have it, pull it out and save yourself the aggrevation. There's a reason Jeeps have drain plugs, carpet doesn't work into that same theory /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif.

Ah, if ever there was a subject to bring out the pic-posting-ho in me, this would be it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif.

Mine is an '06 (TJ/LJ) Rubi. I've been building on it ever since I got it. It's at the point now, where it is pretty well pimped out for hunting, camping and just plain wheeling. It sits on 3" of lift and 35" KM2's.

Definitely, you'll need some sort of rack to carry the dead coyotes. I carried them in the tub with me on the first couple trips with my Jeep but the fleas jumping around in my beard and under my hat convinced me I needed a rack. My rack is attached to the swing out spare tire carrier, which is part of the rear bumper.

Bunch of pics to follow, just because this thread gave me an excuse to post them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif.
