Jerry Reed Dies at 71

Nuts /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif first Evil then Jerry.

I always liked his song about how she got the gold mine and he got the shaft /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. RIP Jerry.

side note: If it wasn't for Jerry and Jackie Gleason, Smokey And The Bandit would have been a turd. IMHO.
Third, how hot was Sally Fields back in the day?!?!?!? Smokin!!

Don't know if you remember "Snowman's" partner "Fred" the bassett hound. He was the dog he talked to going down the road when he wasn't on the CB.

Several years ago we got a bassett puppy and there was no hesitation in naming him Fred. Our Fred has been gone for many years now. But Snowman and our Fred will always be tied together.

We will miss them both.

I'm with Trashcan, though written in the '70's, that "She got the goldmine and I got the shaft" song may have just as well been written about today's 'Family court' system! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

RIP Jerry, thanks for all the great memories!

Darn, that really bums me out. Jerry Reed was a great individual. I have always loved "When You're Hot You're Hot", "East Bound and Down", and other songs of his. If you never saw him fishing with Bill Dance you really missed some funny stuff.

My childhood heroes are starting to slip away one by one.

Pretty sad to hear that...almost thought it was a joke my friend was playing on me (he thinks its odd that i like jerry reed's music and has always given me [beeep] about it).

Who doesnt like Jerry? My favorite has to be "Amos Moses"...

Darn, things like that really make me feel old.

I feel the same way !! The artists I listened to as a young pup are passing so quickly it seems especially in the last couple of years.

Somewhere around 1968 (though my time line may be off, as my memory isn't what it used to be) I went to see Glenn Campbell in concert. It was held "in the round" at a major university, which was quite a big deal in itself, as back in those days a lot of big name performers were playing smaller clubs and dances, etc. Those that have seen the movie "Ray", but were too young to have been around during that time period, the movie was very accurate IMO in portraying the type of very small venues even big name performers frequently were forced perform at.

Anyway, Glenn put on an absolutely outstanding performance, and he had hired the local symphony orchestra, bringing his own rhythm section with him. So about half-way thru the concert, he announced he had brought a special guest with him, and his name was Jerry Reed.

This was so early in Jerry Reed's career, that no one knew who he was. He and Glenn did several tunes together, mostly featuring the excellent guitar work of both of them. This really pushed the concert "over the top", and made for a truly unforgettable concert, and the audience couldn't get enough, and resulted in lots of "standing O's".
They truly brought down the house !!

Within a year, maybe less Jerry Reed had become a household name, and rightly so given his level of talent. I feel very fortunate to have been able to see him perform live. I was never a fan of his movies, but really appreciated his music.

I will miss him !!

Hangtime.
