I had to get up this morning at 3 am. Too much pain to even try staying in bed.Ive had a sore foot for about 5 days and now its bad. Gout,,,,thats what the Doc said. And man I tell ya what it hurts something fierce. The morphine was kinda nice though.

Ibuprofen will become your friend. Lots of it. Dr. finally gave me some ANSAID, some sort of high powered anti-inflammatory. Sorry to hear this, gout is the devil.

Purple,Hear me out before writing me off as a quack, lol.
About 4 years ago I had a run in with gout myself.I had no idea what I'd done to hurt my foot, but wow, it was like I'd broken something.I got to talking to a nurse friend of mine, and she asked Are you sure it isn't gout? I'm like, naaa, that's what old people get.I did some research on webmd.com, and I'll be darned if the symptoms didn't match up exactly. What really took the cake, is I got looking through the possible causes.Number one was excessive or regular drinking of beer....umm, excessive? That's speculative. But when I read on the next one to catch my eye was "A high fat,low protein diet".Well I'd been on the atkins diet for about 6 months at that point, and that's exactly what the diet was, so I put two and two together, and my self diagnosis was that I had gout.Since my reading suggested that the most common way for the medical profession to diagnose was to insert a needle into the affected area, and run tests looking for a buildup of uric crystals, I decided to try some home remedies, lol.I consulted my trusty Herbal Remedy book and made a list of the different herbs that were recomended before heading to my local wally world.Sure enough, I found Grapeseed Extract, the first choice on the list.Paid my 7 bucks and limped on out of there.Well to make a long story a little bit shorter, I felt a little relief by the next day, and within 3 or 4 days, it was as if it had never happened! Well maybe it was a fluke, but a few weeks later,my younger brother was complaining about excrutiating pain in his knee, and since he was the one that had introduced me to the atkins diet, I said, Are you sure it's not gout? I suggested the grapeseed extract, and he gave it a shot. You guessed it, within a few days it was gone. I'm absolutely sold on it's effectiveness, and for 7 bucks it's worth giving it a try.Sure beats all the co-pays, and letting a nurse dig around in your foot with a needle. If you want to try it,but cant find it at wally world, let me know, and Ill consult my book and give you the rest of the stuff they recomended.
As a side note, the stuff is also supposed to be extremely effective on any types of inflamations & joint pains, so if your troubled with that, give it a try!

When I went to the doctor I thought arthritis, she said gout (later psedou gout). She put me on naproxem sodium which took care of the pain and advised me to avoid processed meats (esp. lunch meats) that included internal organs (heart, liver, kidneys that type of thing). I'm still on the naproxem and the toe isn't bothering me (also havn't had a head ache since going on it), but I also havn't had any regular lunch meat since (use sliced turkey breast instead).

Mick I most certainly dont think your a quack. Your post tells me you are very well educated. And guess what Ive been drinking and eating.Too much beer and red meats. Ive been told basically the same think you told me from several people.

had it!! put me on colchicine and has gone away! hurts like hell.. funny thing is my wifes boss is a veg. and works out everyday and rides a bike 25 miles a day and he got the gouat!! he gets it alot so you never know when or who will get it. it can be foot , knees, hands or anywhere else that you have a joint.. it's called the rich mans pain ( because of rich food) but anybody can get it! unbeliveable pain that won't go away untill you get treatment!! good luck to all! grampa fudge

sorry mick!! when i said treatment i ment somthing like you did or the doc.!! i used cherrys and some other home remedys and they helped alot but the doc. made it go for me.. glad yours worked! you have to do somthing or go mad with pain!!

Thought the same thing, I'm 35yrs old, no way, the gout ?? !! I've had two flare ups and the Doc said the next time I visit he'd put me on something permanent.
Soooooooo..... every time I even feel a tingle in my big toe I head for the store to buy some cherry's and that seems to work.
Been a year and a half since I've had one, hope I just didnt jinx myself.

I've got it too. I've been taking Allopurinol and Colchicine for the last 6 years.

I've only had 2 attacks since then. Both times was when I had stopped taking the medicine.

Boy give up beer and red meat. Why thats unheard of. I think I would stick with the grapeseed and cherries. Not much for needles and pills. Hope you are feeling better. You need a free call to have something to look forward to, other than doctor bills. Shoot me a PM and I send you out a predator call! Brandon

I had it when I was 18 due to a bout with rheumatic fever. It was in both knees and the arches of my feet. I was darn near crippled for 3 months. My knees didn’t work right until I got back to Phoenix for the summer. The heat helped a lot. That was over 30 years ago (OK, way over 30 years ago) and I haven’t had a problem with it since.
