Kansas or Colorado p-dog hunt?

The wife and I have to go to a wedding in Cannon City, CO next June. We are driving out there so thought about leaving a few days early and finding a place to shoot pdogs for a couple days on the way. We take i70 all the way across Kansas from St. Louis straight to Canon City. Found one guide service in Eads, CO. Any places anyone would recommend? I’m fine paying guide prices since it will be a quick two day stop and then continue on. Any info is much appreciated.

My neighbor and I go to Eads every year. (I assume there is only one guide service in Eads.) We go in the spring and have a great time. A little slow this year due to them having to find new areas due to some plague in their normal spots. We stay in their old farm house and shoot 3 - 1/2 days. (The dogs tend to go under ground when it gets hot midday.) They set up tables to shoot from and fix lunch in the field. We drive my truck to the PD towns with plenty of ruts and cow trails, so a low car could be a problem. I shot about 500 rounds this year, down from about 800 last year. I would think it would be a little slower in mid summer. This guy has a preacher that helps guide sometimes. They do not hunt on Sunday…GREAT people!

Thanks for the info! Hopefully they will rebound a bit by next year. Was lodging included in the price I assume? It’s good that they have tables. Trying to pack as light as possible. We made some custom 360 tables from past years and they eat up a lot of space. Was planning just to take 3 rifles a piece and ammo for each one. We will be in her new F150 so not sure it will make it through the rough terrain…I’m a GM guy lol. Thanks for the info!

Yes. His normal deal is a 3 day hunt with the lodging included. I would request a 2 day hunt. He normally does Monday through Wednesday and Thursday through Saturday hunts. It is an OLD house but clean with ac. There were lots of PDs, just not in the fields they normally hunt. They were having to find new ranches and drive a little further. On our setup the place was infested! We set up on a hill and shot pretty continuously for a couple of hours. It sounds like you have done this before…same story, some close shots but most at 200 to as far as you want to shoot.
Side story, I do GM or Ford. Years ago on an elk hunt I had an old ford f150 4wd and a buddy had a GM. He decided to give me grief and I wound up towing him out when his 4wd system broke. Ah, what fun…

Yea we usually go to Wyoming or South Dakota. Have had great hunts in both states. I’m excited to try another state though.

And when it comes to trucks, you’ll have that at times lol. When she said she wanted a ford, I didn’t discourage it. I’ve had some issues with my Chevy that have put a bad taste in my mouth. They all have their quirks though…unfortunately when they do it costs a lot of money.
