Kansas Predators

I'm going on a pheasant/quail/duck/goose hunt in Kansas in Dec. I asked if we could hunt predators and they said "yes" they had plenty of coyotes and bobcats. I reviewed the regulations, and it looks like all I need is the license that I will be using for bird hunting. Can someone from Kansas verify this for me? What's the best sounds for Kansas? Yellowhammer woodpecker, cottontail distress. Any others?

Make sure you have your hunter safety course information with you when you get your license. If you don't have it, then you can't get a license.

I an going out there after the first of the yr coyote hunting around Russell and Hays i have been out there before bird hunting and see coyotes alot and coyote sign just about any place u look good luck would the Superjack tape or a grown jackrabbit be a good too use i cant wait to go VM

ONE SHOT ONE KILL

Coycat- I did notice that about taking bobcats, thanks.

I have the hunter safety too. I'm grandfathered here in Texas, but I had to have it to turkey hunt in Missouri a few years back.

Hunting where you can actually see them coming in, will be a blast I hope.

Yellowhammer-

General Hunting license to hunt coyotes (varmints). Furharvesting license required to kill bobcats, foxes, coons, etc. (all furbearers). In short, don't plan on shooting cats because they require application directly to the Secretary of Wildlife and Parks for a NR FH license and you probably don't have time for that to be processed. It's $250, too. Where will you be hunting?

Near Cunningham. I didn't know that about the cats. I didn't see that in the regs, but then sometimes it is not all spelled out, that's why I was asking. I'll research everything a little more before we go. At least now I will know what to ask about.

After looking a little more, it looks like I may be limited to coyotes anyway since I do not have the furharvester education course an was born after 1966 ( I was born in '68). Do you know anything about the course?

They talk about it on page 2. On page 14 they talk about tagging requirements for bobcats but doesn't mention anything about applying to the Secretary of Wildlife or whatever they are.

yh,
you do realize dec.10-14 is rifle deer season.....wear your orange, put orange on your dog......
i live in ks.... the coyotes can be pretty hard that week as there are so many hunters in the woods and it throws off their routine. i also have a hypothesis on it.....too many stinkin gut piles...coyotes aren't hungry....hehe.......
buffet!

Yes, I did know that it is deer season. The guy whose family farm it is will be deer hunting I think. All of our hunting will be their 7000 acres and they will know who is hunting there, and it will be very few.

Yellowhammer, are you going on a guided hunt? The bird numbers are incredible. I wish good luck.

Varmit_master, the coyotes are plentiful this year, around Hays anyway.

Ksboy2, where are you located? Do you have the problem with dog hunter like we do in Hays?

david,
this is going to seem really ironic to you, but we have a couple of houndsmen right near some of my best calling spots. I have two things to say:
1. I personally do not think coyotes have the ability to use logic to connect dogs and calling
2. most of the locals usually load up and head out your way to "run" they like the openness and there aren't as many houses and distractions.
So, i suppose the answer to your question would be no. My only complaint would be that every coyote they kill is one less i kill......and i think theres plenty to go around.
i usually pheasant hunt around beloit/glen and thought it looked awfully good for calling. there are some locals there too that run dogs, but they won't even think about it unless its snow and they can chase with snowmobiles.
good luck
