During my hunt with Jeff Mock back in early August he showed me some of the Ironwood trees that he had on his property and told me how Kerry Carver had taken some of the wood to make calls out of.

Jeff talked about Kerry alot during our hunt and during one of our few breaks that we took I watched 21 days in Coyote Heaven made by Kerry.. Im serious guys get this video.. very cool hunts!!

Anywho, Jeff gave me a bunch of handmade calls before our first hunt and some were made by Kerry.. I had mentioned before it was like Christmas in Jeff's garge that night.

So I get back home and begin my same ole' routine of going to work and wishing I was back in AZ hunting with Jeff when about a week later I get a package in the mail.

When I open it there are two ABSOLUTLEY beautiful hand made calls that Kerry Carver had made from Jeff's Ironwood.

So at first I didn't even want to blow into them, thats how nice they are, I just wanted to place in a show cabinet somewhere in my house.

Well curiousity got the best of me and next thing I know Im outside making the local yotes howl!!

Guys, these calls are without question the very best calls I have ever blown into, the howler is an open reed and is tiny compared to the ones that I am used to but the volume that came out of it was unreal and the ease of operation was fenominal!! I can now make that call do whatever I want after just a few minutes of use.

Kerry also sent a closed reed distress call that is equal to the howler in all aspects mentioned above.. I REALLY LOVE these calls !!

I just have to be super carefull because I dont want to damage in any way .. they are so beautiful!!

Kerry, thanks ALOT man, I am heading to Saskatchewan and Montana for a month in a few days and your calls will be right next to me the entire time.

I can't wait to meet you man so I can shake your hand for the wonderful gifts!!

Hands down with out a doubt the best calls I have ever blown IMO I also have a shelf full of Kerrys calls and they are such works of art I dont dare put any wind through them.

Id also like to thank Kerry for puttin up with me and helpin me out in a minutes notice on any little problem I have had over the past few years.

Its been one of the coolest thing being a part of his Prostaff and him teaching me the art of turning.

But thanks again Kerry for all you do for the Calling world and I can not wait to see your next Creation.
Hope all goes well when you go under the knife and have a safe speedy recovery .

I agree 100% on Kerry's calls. He and I have built a heck of a friendship, which started out of respect for each other's calls. He has only gone uphill since that day! I'd recommend one of his calls to anyone.

He is a top of the line guy for sure and i am very proud to call him a friend and will always have his calls with me on stand along with some on display at home.

I'd been using an FX3 for the first 3/4 of the season. Toward the end, I got disgruntled with carrying the heavy thing plus the remote didn't always work for me, the batteries died, etc, etc. I just decided to go back to the old paths and find rest for my soul (bonus points if you can identify the reference). So, I sold the FX3 and ordered up $75 or so of hand calls, among them a Carver "Swift". First day out I gave the Swift a try. Coyote pops up, I drop him. This happened 5x in a row. Yup, 5 stands, 5 coyotes. On the 6th stand, I called in THREE dogs. Got one (below). I was impressed.

Last year, at the start of the season, I lost my Swift. A little while later Stormking came out and hunted with me and I lamented the loss of my Swift. A week or two later, guess what showed up in my mailbox? A new Swift. I have lanyard-tied this one to my backpack.

Wow, those are purty! I won three of Kerry's calls in the Spring Turkey contest, and they are all fabulous, but the howler is something else!!

How is one makers call better than the other when it's just a mass produced closed reed shoved into some wood or a plastic tone board ???????

PersonaL PREFERENCE. there are a ton of hands down best call makers in the WORLD on here and no one said anybodys were better than anyone elses.
Some gents are just showing some respect to the guy who builds the call they PREFER. Is that Ok with you JEEPY

Kerry is REALLY nice! His DVD rocks! His calls sound amazing. Have yet to get a Carver call I haven't been 100% happy with. Plus his prices are good and the quality is second to none.

For many call makers, like myself, you've described some of what we do to build a custom call. Albeit in a negative and uneducated summarization. The process you described may be accurate for a mass produced plastic call from China, where the laborer is the assembler and tuner of the call. In the case of most custom call builders, you have a person that actually calls predators, knows the distress sounds or coyote vocalizations they want to produce and also tunes each call by hand. Your assumption that a mass produced reed is ready to be "shoved" into "some wood" and you have a predator call is laughable and wildy off base. Each reed needs to be tuned individually to get the most out of it. On top of that, there is the different sound qualities that different materials, lengths, shapes and styles produce. A good call maker has done countless hours of R&D to find which components produce the best sounds and give the user a consistent sound.

Now to the subject of Kerry Carver. He doesn't need my feeble justification of his work as it speaks for itself, but I'll give you some insight since you asked for it. Kerry is one of the most innovative, if not the most innovative, predator call makers in the World. While many of us call makers use his toneboards in our calls, Kerry designs each one by hand, with improvement after improvement until the sound is just right. He also molds every board he has in his own shop. So from start to finish the sound one of his calls makes is purely a product of his hard work. This is saying nothing about the ease of use with each of his toneboards or the incredible versatilty that each has.

Like I said the proof is in the pudding, dozens of call makers utilizing his boards, hundreds of calls being produced each year and hundreds, if not thousands, of predators falling to his CUSTOM sounds each season. I hope that answers your question.
