I have and have had a few Kershaw's over the years. The first one was a "Blade Trader" round-about's 1999. Still use it, although it has loosened up enough now that it's a pain scrubbing coon grease out of the swing handle (how you change the blades). I carry a cheaper Kershaw Kuro as my "pocket knife" every day. Love this blade, would rather have a drop point than the tanto point, but it keeps an edge like a mother!
I have pretty high standards for blades, if a knife can't take an edge, or won't keep an edge, I don't waste my time. The Kershaw blades do very well in my book.
Ultimately, it depends on what your use for the knife will be. A drop point style knife about 3-4" like the Kershaw 1082 would make a fine skinning knife, especially with that long swooping belly on the blade. I generally lean more towards a 4" blade than a 3", but you won't be hurting here, and with Kershaw's ability to keep an edge, you won't waste a lot of time sharpening (that's the issue I have with shorter blades: BUT, long blades are a waste as you can only really effectively use a few inches anyway). The point is JUST rounded enough to keep you from poking holes in the hide, but still fine enough to detail around the face and under the arms. The overall weight looks like it would be a bit light for what I'm used to, but about the perfect weight for a fur shed knife.
It would also depend where you're buying it. Some places likely have the 1082 in the $70 range, whereas you should be able to find it for $45-50 at an honest shop.
