Michelle and I hunted hogs this evening. I walked out a large patch of timber while Michelle hunted a different area. It was getting near dark as I entered an open coastal field. Just as I crossed the fence I heard hogs off in the distance and across the creek. I sat out the foxpro about 30 yards in the open field and turned the sow protection sound on. I had just about given up calling a hog and muted the call. Michelle called to tell me I would have to hike nearly a mile to the truck and come pick her up all of a sudden I caught movement near the creek and dropped my phone in my pocket quickly shouldering my Remington 870 topped with an EOtech site and loaded with Remington slugs, it was so dark by now that I had to turn the site nearly all the way down to pick out the hogs form. He was traveling towards me at a good pace, but needed to turn a bit for me to see him good. So I turned the call back on and he turned towards it and bristled up for the last time as the 12 gauge barked. Old habits die hard I guess as I neck shot him all the while knowing full well that a body shot would have done the trick.
