KIMBER 84M PRO VARMINT .223 PROBLEMS!!!!!

All,

I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with there kimbers "Miss Firing". A little history with this gun. I bought it used from a guy in my area. I absolutely love this gun it is beautiful. I did a lot of research for a walking varmint rifle and this one caught my eye. Well when i first had it I could shoot about 9 out of 10 bullets without a misfire! So I decided in the off season I would send the bolt into Kimber and see if they would warranty the firing pin and spring. The reason why I am worried is because most of the time the pin hits the primer right in the center but does not impact it enough to make it go off. So I sent it in and they where very nice and warrantied the product and replaced the firing pin and spring. I took it out yesterday and the [beeep] thing wont fire one of my PMC Bronze FMJ 55 Grain bullets, But would shoot Remington everyone in a while. Now the gun shoots like 2 out of 10 bullets. Has anyone had this problem at all? They gun is at my local GUN SMITH right now getting torn down for 30$ to see if the head space or somthing is wrong. If it is a headspace problem i will send it back to kimber "the whole gun this time", and have them fix the issues or i will have them replace the gun with a new one.

Please leave feedback if anyone has heard or personally had these problems.

Thanks ALOT!!!!

LOVE THIS FORUM BY THE WAY

Mine is in 204R and have never had a problem with it. As in any manufactured product there will always be "the one that slips through". It sounds like this is what happened to your gun. Send it back to Kimber and have them fix it.

It may be the ammo. I bought some of that junk. Half the box wouldn't fire and the primers looked the same as the ones that did fire.

Yea it was 13 degrees out and my gun had been in my truck box for 3 hours before I shot it! Yes as well as the PMC ammo may be junk as well could be why it was 4.99$ a box ha ha, well hopefully the gunsmith will have some answers for me this week! Also I had my Leupold rangefinder out of it's case for 15 minutes and it froze up as well. Good suggestion thanks. But my savage .17hmr and my brother and dads browning a bolt .223 and 22-250 shot great! This sucks!!!!!

I have two Kimber rifles and really like them. One thing I learned is that the primers really need to be seated properly and that the pin may be a little softer hitting than others, so make sure they are fully seated before shooting, otherwise you'll have that happen again

Ps- Kimber has great customer service. I contacted them a while ago and they were fantastic to talk to

Luke,
What do you mean make sure the primers are all the way set in? Do you mean make sure the bullet is all the way back in the magazine? Or do you mean when buying ammo make sure you inspect the primers first?
Thanks for your comments!

Sorry I tend to be vague when I am tired and for some reason it makes sense to me when I am typing it out.

I have noticed that when the primer isnt seated all of the way in the primer pocket (ie the primer is slightly protruding from the brass) when the firing pin strikes the primer, it doesnt provide enough force to push the primer into the proper seating depth and ignite the primer at the same time (so you likely have to re-chamber the cartridge and pull the trigger again to get it to fire).

For me, this has been the case for cheaper ammo like PMC because they must not have the ability to ensure that the primers are seated properly and keep costs down?

Where are you located? I can refer you to a gunsmith that has done a great job for me on all of my rifles

I am in West Jordan UT. I have it at patriot arms right now and i have known this guy for a while and he is tearing it down as we speak hopefully it is something stupid and i wont have to sent it back to kimber for a head job.
