kimber Montana

My experience with them has been great. Some reviews do not like them. Barrels heat up super fast but for 3 shots they are very accurate.

No .223 here, but a .300wsm and it shoots. Yes they do heat up fast, but the cold bore on mine is spot on everytime.
If I had not had my parts on order for my LW .223AI when the .223 Kimber came online I'd have one today.

i dont have one but have been looking into one and asked for opinions a couple weeks ago, and from everything i have read, all the suggestions, and the couple i have shot, i am going to be buying a 7/08 for next year. a small bore would probly be an awesome calling rifle too.

I own two Kimber Montana rifles (243 and 308) and both shoot extremely good. Like was said, they will start to wander after 3-4 shots. They are hunting rifle and not bench rifles. I also own a couple of wood stocked Kimber rifles and they are the same as far as accuracy goes. They are great hunting rifles, IMO.

I had one in a 7-08 and it was great for use as a walking stick... shot about 3" groups or so at 100. Didn't like the action neither it was kinda rough. For the money spent look into something else. I will never own another limber that's for sure.

Where's K22?

He bought one in 204 for calling.
Liked it so much he bought another to build a 17Rem on.
Pretty good recomendation in my book.
He'll probably be along shortly.

I don't own one, but wouldn't hesitate to spend my money on a wood stocked version.

Luck

Of the troublesome Kimbers I've read on, 7-08 was one of them.

I've handled alot of Kimber rifles and have yet to see/feel a rough one. Now they feel diff than say a push feed Rem, but not that much diff.

I had to work up loads for mine. My 300 wsm likes to be pushed hard with 180 accubonds. Smaller bored ones shoot fine with more medium loads. They can be finicky, just gotta find the right load.

thats what i am hoping. i wanted a 260 but they dont make it in a MT anymore, at least its not on their website.

I'm over here Charlie. I wandered off the path and got lost.

Anyway, a Kimber you say. Best darn factory carry rifle on the market...............IMHO.

Like Charlie said, I bought one in 204 last year and was/am super impressed with it. I'm sure the barrels might heat up with other calibers, but mine will put 6 rounds into a group that will stay under .75". The action is very smooth and I can seat the bullets out farther than I could in a Ruger 204 and still have them feed. The barrel cleans up very easy and the trigger was very easy to adjust. Mine came factory set at 3 1/4# and I adjusted it to 2#. Zero creep and no overtravel. The carbon fiber stock is pillared, but you might want to bed the barrel lug a little better. I didn't on mine because it shoots just fine. Already to hunt it weighs 6# 4oz.
The only thing I don't like about the Montana is it doesn't come in a 17Rem.

So, I bought another one in 204, adjusted the trigger to 2#, scoped the rifle and fired 8 rounds. 2 rounds to zero and 6 rounds to see how it compared to my first one. Using the very same load I had worked up for the first one, it matched it. Heck, I couldn't tell which rifle I was shooting. I stuck it in a box and sent it off to be rebarreled to a 17 Rem.
For a Predator rifle in my area, it is perfect.
Not a great picture, but here's the little jewel.

Thanks bigsky. I wish I could figure out how to get a better picture of it. The barrel really isn't that shiny, but every picture I've taken of it seems to make it look like it is.

The custom 17 Rem. will look just like it unless I decide to paint the stock. The Lilja #1 barrel should be a shade smaller in diameter, but not so you would notice.

A couple of targets with 2 different loads. I know, I know, you've heard it all before, but truthfully, it is very consistent shooting these size groups.

Jim,,,, did you shoot those groups with the 2.5-8 scope that's currently on the rifle?
If so, I'm impressed.
Especially at your age. (Said the pot to the kettle.) ;>)

Yes I did. I know better than to put some huge magnification scope on there. My bench isn't that solid and at our age those tremors get really amplified.

but on a more serious note, I really can shoot groups almost as good with a low power scope as I can with a high power scope. In order to prove it to a few folks, I shot these 2 rimfires at 50yds. One group of targets was shot using 24X while the other targets were shot at 6X. Both rifles are very good shooters and I cleaned both of the barrels before I started. As you can see, there is very little difference in the size of the groups.

It's not the tremors, but the vision that gets me.
Course, you're allot older than I am.

More than anything, I'm impressed that you actually posted multiple good groups on the same piece of paper.
Most have one or two targets they post and re-post.
Me,,, I never post my pitiful targets, but I do have one good one that I carry in my wallet to show the world, if the subject comes up.

I think it was Brad Arnett that started a thread a couple years ago, challenging folks to post five, five shot groups, all on the same piece of paper.

You could have heard a pin drop.
